Having encountered an Audi that was almost driving on the back wheel of my motorbike (this was beyond tail-gating) in traffic in a 30mph limit the other night, I noticed when it passed in another lane at some traffic lights that it was a LHD A1 with unusual wheels and a Quattro badge.

I'd never seen one of these before.

ps. I gave it a wide berth as from what I could see it of it was being driven fairly hard and, having passed me after the junction, less than considerately to others through suburbia. Presumably not too precious about it or concerned about colliding with the other cars that were in its way either.
-Not exactly discrete.... Interesting car though.

They're LHD only, not sold in the UK. Ridiculously expensive for what they are, even by Audi standards.

They're a limited edition car, about £40k and LHD only. I've seen one once on the road and another at a dealership months ago. Can't say they do anything for me, if anything they look a bit silly with the historical graphics, but they're bloody quick. I still think you'd have to be mad to spend that kind of money on a souped-up supermini though!

Aren't they just a stickered version of the top a1?

Nope, they are a quite unique version of the A1, seriously expensive, Audi though had no issues selling them all.

Really? What's the difference? At the one in thought they were a pr exercise.

Eta. Ah ok, they're a 2.0t from an s3 rather than the usual 1.4tfsi

Its nice to see manufacturers actually trying to do vaguely interesting stuff occasionally. Its sort of like a modern day Clio V6 (which was also very expensive, not very practical and had less than amazing performance).

Far from it, engine is not available in any other a1, Quattro system also not on any a1's either.

Yes it was 40k but pretty special really.

There were a few sold over here, (about 20 I think) out of a production run of 333 all lhd.I think some of the 20 were snapped up and sent back to Europe, pretty rare beast on these shores, it was around £40k which seemed a lot for a 2.0 A1 with a similar performance to a S3

It's not all about numbers though. It's rare so will hold its value well.

Hmmm. I wonder how different it is from an S3? (quite a potent car in my experience) Especially given a few tweaks?

I think that is a very cool car indeed, loving the wheels, Ronals?

Yes expensive but at least they are attempting to add some zest.

MNO I'd have one in the imaginary collection as part of the "pocket rocket" display along with a V6 clio etc...

Not a fan of new Audis at all, but I do like these. I admire the few (even fewer of late) companies who make a bespoke limited editions (Clio V6, 6R4, R5 Turbo etc). Out of my price range and will probably stay that way, cant see them dropping to much.
