Roof Proofing nono

Ok just a quick one. As I use the Tiv all year round, not an easy/dry thing to do in the North East, I decided that I would re waterproof the roof today. I previously used Rnovo around 8 months ago.

I was not too impressed so went back to Thompsons. Thi sis not good as the Thompsons runs off A lot more than before. Common sense? Well no, tbecause the renovo product does not cause water to bead off rather just not permeate the fabric. But it seems to make thomsons run off a lot more. Never the less it has taken, just beware and apply less than usual for the first coat.

I now have to use my afternoon break washing the grease, from the solvents, off the windows as I had to use some to clean the Thompsons off them.

I tried the Renovo stuff a few years ago and it only lasted a couple of months so I went back to Fabsil which only needs I coat every other year (but car garaged).

Oi! Renovo,...NO!

(The roof-colouring stuff works ok though)

Blythy swears by it - even uses it on his Y-fronts... which has enabled him to discard his colostomy bag!

Fabsil can be bought from camping shops IIRC…

I've used Thompsons and that was pretty good…

Wasn't overly impressed with the Autoglym stuff…

Renovo was OK for hood proofing.. But their colour restorer was very good…

Spotted something on Leven's shelves when I was down there last week getting shiny bits… so could give that a go..?

Need all the chassis protection stuff too and thats the only place I have ever seen it advertised.

Fabsil is as good as anything on the market, used it for 3 years on mine without any problems.

Have also painted Max the interpid Dobermann in it so that he doesn't get wet........wunderbar

I just called them and the bloke seemed a decent chap. I'm waiting till I get my car back to check that everything is ok before ordering - no point getting stuff without the car

I would agree with that, it's designed for proofing tent canvas so presumably quite appropriate for soft-top roofs! Get a gallon can and it will last years. Oh, and tip some into a jam jar and paint it on with a 2" brush. It's much eaisier to be accurate than with the aerosol spray can which gets the stuff all over the bodywork was well. Rich...

Fabsil is the stuff but don't buy spray-on. You need to buy the liquid and brush it on. Even seagull shit falls off without leaving a mark.

DustyC has some stuff he uses which he swears by.

Generously he even offered to put some on mine, unsurprisingly he forgot to bring it along.

Up to now I have been using a Halford cleaner/polish but to make way for even more wr's window products they have stopped selling it
