Sky + HD Multiroom playing up
Discussion
Morning all,
I am tired of going through the same old procedure when calling Sky to explain that their service is s
t and once again I am not able to watch any of the TV that I pay for so thought I would reach out to the well-informed masses on PH.
Basically, periodically the main Sky+ HD box in the living room loses any semblance of a signal and either the picture and sound becomes unwatchable through blocky digital static, or I just get the "your sky box is not receiving a signal" message. Sky and many others have put such issues down to bad weather/wind, which is all well and good, except it still does it on clear still nights with not a cloud in the sky.
And... Made a discovery last night that even when the living room Sky + HD box is playing up, the Sky HD box in the bedroom receives the signal perfectly.
This leads me to think it may be a connection problem of sorts. I have checked the connections on the back of the box and all seems well to me, so is it possible that something has gone awry at the satellite dish end?
Is it worth me borrowing a ladder to go and have a look? Or is there anything else I can do from the living room end such as swapping the 2 dish cables around or something? Or is this a sign that the box is on its way out?
Thanks.

Can you get to the connectors on the back of the dish ? If so, you could try swapping around the two pairs of cables (ie 1 & 2 to 3 & 4, 3 & 4 to 1 & 2).
If the problem persists with Sky Box A, then the problem is associated with that box.
If the problem moves to Sky Box B, that would suggest a cable or LNB (dish) connection problem.
If nothing else, it would narrow the search whilst re-making the LNB connections at the same time..
Alternatively, have you tried swapping the Sky boxes between rooms ?

As others have said
Swap the boxes over, if the multiroom box only has one feed then put this on No 1 feed of sky+HD box.
If the suspect box plays up then it will be a box issue
The boxes are made down to a price and when they become tired the cheap power supplies give up the ghost, this will often show up as some channels working and others not, box sticking in standby etc.
If it is the box then you will need to get assertive with sky for a repair.
telling them that you want it repaired or you may take up Virgins generous offer can often bear results.........
