This might be a really noddy question, but anyway:

Recently changed the wiper blades on my Avensis. Couldn't get to the Toyota dealer for a like-for-like replacement due to opening times/working day conflict, and couldn't wait (old 'uns falling apart on a rainy day) so got some Hella blades from Eurocarparts, who were still open.

Unfortunately, the blades are really annoyingly noisy, almost all the time. No idea why these should do this, when the genuine Toyota parts that were on it before were quiet in all conditions. Anything I can do about this, or is my only option my about-to-be-executed plan to just get some Toyota blades at next opportunity and write off the Hellas?

Same thing happened to me with a BMW. Tried cleaning them with meths which helped a bit, but then had BMW ones fitted which worked properly from the start. I have no idea why good quality after markets should do this, but they often do.

Try a different brand? I've never had a problem with Bosch, Valeo or Denso blades, but others have been rubbish.

Have a look on carparts4less, should be able to get a set for <£10 delivered.

The genuine blades may have a different treatment on the surface of the rubber that aren't on the aftermarket parts.
IIRC some OE suppliers use powdered graphite on the blade as a 'lubricant'.

Also the OE part may have a curved spline to help it fit the shape of the windscreen better. The blade manufacturer can tune these to the windscreen curvature.

Possibly the mould release agents used on the rubber?

Also, try cleaning the windscreen using a mildly abrasive cleaner like Cif - it won't scratch the glass but it does get rid on entrenched grime.

Try cleaning them with vinegar - I've heard it can stop squealing.

Alternatively - buy Bosch blades from ECP when they have a sale on - so cheap compared with Halfords etc and they are excellent. The really cheap VistaPro ones are awful, never tried Hella ones.
