So from time to time I post on here when I find a vehicle that interests me online.
I often check Coparts website for any potential easy project cars that require a small amount of repair because of my amateur skill level and the amount of damaged vehicles they sell .

They are currently selling my favourite car of the moment. An Audi R8 Spyder. Although it is way out of my price range, there's no harm in looking biggrin .

What I am wondering however is the car is marked as a CAT D due to fire damage. Has anyone ever bought a fire damaged car? And what did you do with it? I think the car will go for a lot of money but is someone likely to buy such a high end car like this for the parts or to try to fix? I suppose it all depends on how much the vehicle goes for but wouldn't buying any new parts be a bit of a nightmare for sourcing and cost wise also?

Solely going by the photographs, I'm a touch puzzled as to why that's been written off. I wonder what hidden nasties made it uneconomical? Maybe the fireman got overexcited with his hose squirting and filled the thing up with foamy water?

I'd imagine a new interior is a vast sum from Audi (everything will stink of smoke don't forget), along with a new roof, steering wheel, airbag, wiring looms etc.

Maybe it's something as stupid as the OEM seats being a rediculous price as with some other cars. I'm sure I remember reading that the seats in a Honda NSX were £17k a pair. Would only take a cig burn to write an NSX off silly
