I haven't had a new console since the days of the PS2 and original Wii. Mrs Puggit has spoiled the surprise by telling me in a drunken moment that I'm getting an Xbox One for Xmas. I've had a quick look around and it seems the games are a frightening £55!

So - what I'm after is a newbie's introduction to what I can do with one of these consoles (and what I must do!).

I know about Forza 5 wink

Thanks...

Call of Duty is usually good for cost in relation to play time.

It depends do you intend to get XBlive? (as in the online element) if so it opens up a lot more game time especially for titles like COD, Battlefield etc.

Also Titanfall/Destiny are the ones to look out for next year.

Also the games are around £50 ATM but the RRP of 360 games was also £50 but they often were available on release day for sub £40 if you shopped around, I imagine once the XB1 hype drops a bit the same will happen to XB1 games.

According to my local game it appears the rrp of both xbone and ps4 games will be revised to £45 on launch day.

Obviously the proof will only come at that time but they insisted this is official from their head office.

This is the sort of thing I need to know about. My console gaming experience has all been offline so far...!

Puggit; as Dave mentions, games won't actually be £55.

The RRP is about that for PS3 games, or certainly was on release, and everything was sold at around £40. T'was always thus.

Well Xbox Live is a membership based service that allows you to access the online elements of games as well as other things like youtube, bing, bbc iplayer and other things through your console.

An annual membership retails at £40 (I think) but if you shop around you can pick it up for about £30, I find that "Shopto" are really good for buying games/Xbox Live stuff from.

You find nowadays that most games are more heavily geared towards the online multi-player element rather than the single player story lines so if you want to get the most out of your games Xbox Live really is the way to go.

Yup, online multiplayer is the best bit of many games - and it's about all I play personally.

However, there are some people out there who play a LOT of multiplayer, so they will be very very good and sometimes this makes the game less for for people who are bit earlier in the learning curve.

Also, get a mic (well I think you get one with the xbox one) so you can talk to people. However, be prepared to meet a fair share of idiots.

1. Get Xbox Live
2. Get some friends
3. Register on the PH Forza 5 club thread

If you want to get a head start - you can probably register for an xbox live account now and get a name (gamertag) setup. Free accounts are called "Silver". Once you have your Xbox console, pay your money and it will convert into "Gold" which lets you do all the fun stuff.

If not - just wait and do it on your console - but expect quite a few forms and typing rather than playing games! :-)

Here's a good advert to keep you entertained while you wait...

GTA5?

Could manage doing a British Gas Granny on Severn Trent. hehe

OK - any other must have accessories? What does the Xbox come with? (I'm hoping at least 2 controllers).

Or is everything done by charades because of Kinect?

You get one controller and one headset I think - plus the Kinnect.

Is it still the case no GTA5 and no one knows when, or 2014.... maybe?

It's a maybe still, the PC version is all but confirmed, but they may just start working on their next project instead of porting it over.

Personally I can see it being released for next gen with the first couple of DLC's bundled into it in the middle of next year.
