Guys - random one -

have just had one of the rear door handles fail on my 2005 Nissan pathfinder (assume its a cable that's given way)

need to get it fixed pronto, as the Mrs has put her back out and piling three kids in the back through on door is not particularly beneficial to it...

Does anyone know if this something that can be done quickly/easily? i.e. would any local garage or similar be able to do it while-u-wait stylee? Am i likely to be able to do it myself (am reasonable with spanners for basic stuff)

Don't really want to have to book it in somewhere - but would normally take it to a local franchise garage which seems overkill for a (hopefully) simple fix....

Cheers All

Yes, door card off, hook up dropped parts or replace as required. Shouldn't be a difficult, expensive or long job for any garage. Also a routine DIY if you're inclined that way.

First off pop the door card off and have a look - might be easy might not.

If you can't work it out just phone around your local (ideally non dodgy) garages and ask them if they have time to look at today.

In my experience unless you get really lucky you'll have to book it in.

A search for a mobile mechanic to you might be a good plan. They can normally have a look at short notice and tend to be a bit better than garaged based as you are more often than not dealing direct with the owner.

One minor issue - Door is childlocked - which i believe can only be released when open.

Always use my local VAG specialist for service & non-service work. Use genuine VAG parts but charge a damn sight less labour than a Skoda dealer - and don't take the p*ss with the labour either! Been using them for some 5 or 6 years now, with both mine and my missus' Fabias.

I'm taking it to be the handle has gone floppy? Not hooking the mechanism? The child lock may be significant, but the course of action is to take the door card off & have a look - the problem may be obvious once that's done. OTOH, it may not wink but that's where to start.

One tip, you could remove the other door card too since if it's working, it's a perfect visual reference of how things should be.

One of my mates had the same issue on a Fiesta. Choice was either destroy the door handle or destroy the door card as the trim couldn't be released with the door shut. Might be different on yours though. Probably worth finding out which bit is going to be cheapest to replace before you start.

Removing the door card is often easier said than done when the door can't be opened!

Yeah - floppy handle.

Can't get the door-card off though without getting the door open...

think it's going to be a trip to the dealers - might give a local mobile mech a call - thanks for the advice all,
