Zinc replacement Additives
Discussion
I’m more interested in finding out if adding Zinc is actually necessary in the first place?
Or has anyone done it etc..?
We all know that, as valves stretch, we will eventually end up in a situation where we can’t get valve shims small enough..
But, I wanted to know if the cam lobes would benefit from the added protection of a zinc additive?
Or is it just better practice to just replace the cams if they show any signs of wear?

Zinc is good for the engine, bad for catalysts and lambda sensors. However on balance given the often long periods between start-ups and generally low annual mileages I would have said zinc was a good thing. I'm not an engine builder or catalyst or lambda sensor manufacturer though, they might have other opinions?
I was looking at Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil
Which has added zinc but it only comes in 10W30 or 20W50.
The 20W50 is no good for winter.
But the 10W30 might be ok if an oil cooler that uses coolant to maintian oil temprature is fitted - which would keep hot idle oil temps in line with coolant temp..

Just buy any oil from Millers or Penrite, they all contain the required amount of zinc.
No additives required.
The funny thing is Hy-Per Lube Zinc Replacement Additive does not contain Zinc or Phosphorous, epic fail from the YouToober there
NB: Re the video, using your part disassembled engine as a filing bench is not a great idea.
