See our forum for info but JC is testing the new viper on T/Gear this sunday.

Car went well and creamed the C6 , however run was in the perfect dry unlike the day the Vette was run.

BTW I love the new C6 think it looks great!!!!

And nicking another thread, looking forward to the Vette/Viper rwyb day at the pod.

Jezza must have been tearing his hair out at another crap Yank being so athletic on track. Still, he can still fall back on the TG patent "slapping the dash" test to prove that all Yanks are rubbish. My, I'm so looking forward to being entertained again.

As I was driving home in the Z28 the other day, my eye accidentally fell upon the fascia top, a perfectly servicable and tight-fitting, non-vibrating piece of grey plastic which does it's job perfectly and I was trying to remember the last time I felt the sudden urge to slap the dash or rap it hard with my knuckles. For the most part, I am oblivious to it. Do you suppose Audi drivers spank their dashboards every morning to get some form of superiority aura about them?

Definitely, although they don't seem to achieve the aura thing. Audis are the cars most likely to rocket past the Vette and then slow down in front!

It was a dry at the studio/track no wednesday, but it seems the actual SRT Stig track footage wasnt taken that day, oh well, they needed a dry day to get the best out of it.

I didn't see the show (IKEA cabinets to blame!) but I was just wondering how the Viper fared... and it came in 1.9sec slower than the 'vette, according to the top gear site...

Hmmm...

If that's the case, it'll be very interesting to say what a 500hp C6 Z06 will do...

It sure looks better than the C6 even if it was slower marginally round the track.

Having said that, I was let down by the apparent lack of any juvenile cracks about the hard suspension, the gearshift and I think they forgot to spank the dashboard. I think setting fire to the sills would be my biggest concern on a hot day.

I mean.....IT CAUGHT FIRE!

When did it catch fire ?? I know JC commented on the steam/smoke from the hot exhausts within the sills, but I didnt actually see it on fire ?

Nice car though, and would have been great to see it in the dry.
I think its a lot faster than it appeared on the show.

I've sent an e-mail to Top Gear complaining that Clarkson only liked it because he failed to test the car properly like all the other American cars and singularly failed to drive it over a pebble or spank the dashboard.

You ever slapped the dash in a new Z3? Those aliminium dash plates (is it an option?) are the cheapest, poorest finished piece of junk I've ever seen!

I think someone tells them to say "crap interior" 'cos it's expected. I don't think a C4 interior is that poor, let alone a C5, or late camaro / firebird/ mustang.

Think the Viper (or whatever, doesn't sound as good as Viper though) is looking a bit expensive now though...

It showed the sills with a distinct flame dancing on it similar to pouring lighter fluid onto paintwork and lighting it (you don't think JC would....nah).

Given the severe beating they gave it, I fail to see how it could be faster than it appeared. Admittedly, given a dry track, it may have come close to or equalled the Corvette but then the Corvette is just the stock Corvette and when the rumoured 7 litre 500bhp Z06 comes out, it should be very quick indeed.

I do like it though but it is too expensive. Chrysler must be hoping the new Z06 will be as ugly as the stock C6.

The cats must of gone nuclear, then set fire to the NASA heat shield material that protects your ankles from getting burn't nothing new for a standard choked viper.

You'd have thought Chrylser would of seen this coming and put some high flows in. Hope they learnt a lesson in car preparation, just imagine if it was a summer test, and not a cold autumn morning in the wet

Chrysler are doing a great job of releasing new cars at the moment, apart from the new R2D2C3PO (Sorry, perhaps if I say replacement 'Viper' you will know what I mean) they have also released the Plymouth PT Cruiser Caravanette. Also on the same episode of TG. Mmm, what a lovely looking car.

Think the Viper looks significantly less developed than the Vette. Where are the useful bits like HUD, and dare I say it, traction control and the like. And are Chrysler doing anything clever with chassis, like hydroformed frame rails and so on? All for only twice the price!

I guess though when you do spend a lot of money on a car, then you are more likely to have the fire/exhaust issue (Sound familiar VetteHeadRacer?)
