Heater playing up

Sods law this ....

My Chims heater used to work perfectly. In fact it used to really belt out the heat when the Heater Fan (Blower) was on.

Not an awful lot of call for it in the summer though, but now winters coming, it's starting to play up.

Here's what's happening:

Turn heater controls to HOT.
Heater Fan OFF - nice warm / hot air drifts out of the vents
Heater Fan ON - air coming out of vents quickly turns cool

Switch Fans OFF again, and gradually the airflow warms up again.

Any advice?

I know that my radiator has a small leak - could it be air in the system?

The chances are there is insufficient coolant in the system and there will be airlocks.
If you have used rad weld or bars leak it may have restricted the flow in the heater matrix.
My advice;
Get the radiator repaired/recored.
Make sure there is foam or similar infill around it before fitting it up to the fibre glass
Flush the system for a good ten minutes with a hosepipe especially the heater matrix.
Refill and bleed the system with new coolant.

No problem.
The cooling system needs to be in very good condition at all times to prevent overheating problems.
The brakes are another area where you cannot afford to allow too much deterioration. Cheap pads as fitted by dealers are a no-no.
