Recolouring roof fabric

Anyone tried using shoe dye to refresh / recolour their fabric roof?

Timpsons sell something called "Lady Esquire Dye".

Bumpf says:

"The complete shoe colouring solution. Available in a range of colours. Formulated for use on leather, canvas and fabric. Each pack contains all that is needed for preparation and re-colouring.Enables shoes to be matched to outfit or old shoes to be given new life. Gives natural finish with good flexibility. Ideal for touching-up scuffs and scrapes. Changes any colour to any colour- even Black to White"

Just wondering - much cheaper than the "R" stuff

Now I've used it, personally I wouldn't try anything other than Renovo.

I've changed my hood from black to dark blue and back to black as the mood takes me.

Great stuff and good value for money IMHO.

Renovo for me every time.

My jaw did drop when I first saw the price, but after using it a couple of time it is definitely worth it.

If you feel confident, then it may be worth a try.

I followed the lead of others on here and used the Renovo stuff on Sunday. Coupled with the result of the rear window cleaner, all I can say is that I am well chuffed.

I have used Renovo, and it worked well.

My hood is Blue though, and the Renovo blue is different to the original colour (it's lighter).

As you can get a wider range of colours in the shoe dye, I was interested in anyone's experiences.

Probably the same stuff anyway

My hoods not far enough gone to risk a test.

Simon, do you mean your hood is a lighter blue than the Renovo blue ? I guess this is likely because the R blue is pretty dark.

The other way round - the Renovo blue is lighter than the original colour.

Don't get me wrong, it still looks better than before I did it - it could just do with darkening down a bit. It looked wonderful when it was wet!

only because you got the wrong colour to begin with..........

Wouldn't risk it. You can get 2-3 sessions out of a Renovo bottle, so if you do it every two years that's 6 years of colour: not much per year really.

This is the problem I have (see other thread).

I'd assumed it was because the roof had faded but now I see the Renovo blue is a different shade (I'd assumed there might be an industry standard blue).

I've some black I ordered by mistake. I suppose I could always mix them?
