How Much to Have Teeth Cleaned?

How much is a reasonable charge for scraping/buffing/getting rid of scale?

I had a half hour session with the hygienist today, and was charged £92. Is this reasonable? I was expecting about £40!

Last week in Norwich, I paid £35 for 10 minutes worth of cleaning at my dentist.

I appreciate the difficulty for the OP. When booking the appointment get a confirmation of the rate/price. No different to asking ant other directly paid professional for an indication of costs. I think £92 in Wales is taking the p---. I would raise that cost with the dentist and the dental council. It seems grossly excessive to me.

£92 is quite a sum. Always get a quote for anything pre treatment. You have the right to refuse paying because you were'nt aware of this huge fee.

£92 is on the very expensive side, I would maybe expect to pay that much in London or here but not Wales.

Maybe we dont have the full facts. Did the bill include other work ...eg exam and/or xrays.

Did you pay with a credit card? I would dispute this personally because I dislike being fleeced. If you use that dentist regularly I would possibly seek a compromise otherwise I would seek a very substantial refund and go elsewhere. You have been comprehensively fleeced.

Jay-sus, that is a lot!

I have a fabulous private dentist, and my hygienist of choice understands my teeth OCD and basically this involves (and I've posted before about enjoying this procedure - but then again I am a bit strange) an absolute assault and massacre on my gums and teeth with some serious attention from the ultrasonic cleaner (right up under the gums to get everything out) and all the tools at her disposal.

But my gawd, I come out with nearly new teeth after!

As she is so thorough, the appointments take around 45 minutes. I am based in what could be described as a very wealthy South-coast city, and even then, my appointments cost me £45.

So yeah, you was robbed!
