This was a story on the Daily Fail but lets ignore that and go straight to the main bit.

http://www.ntnu.edu/cerg/vo2max

I am 33, and my result was a VO2 of 58 and a fitness age of less than 20! Interestingly I am over weight, but putting in a smaller waist measurement doesn't make much difference.

I also entered what I was a year ago before I took up Triathlons. My fitness age was 45. I've added 25 years to my life smile

Your VO2MAX is calculated to be 79
and your estimated "fitness age" is younger than 20.

I'm 40, but I do eat 20yo's for breakfast and if they're really lucky, for a midnight snack too. wink

If only if it were all this simple or maybe this just represents the shocking state of average western health these days?

There might be some minor inconsistencies on how the VO2 max is calculated, but 79 is equivalent to about level 18/19 of the bleep test. If you've had the pleasure of the bleep test, then I'd guess you know how challenging that would be

81, fitness age under 20.

I've been a fitness bore most of my life though (I'm now 38).

those people with VO2s in the 80s are you putting in your waist in cm or inches?

Seems optimistic based on scant data to me:

45 beats per minute; are you on your death bed smile

Your VO2MAX is calculated to be 54

and your estimated "fitness age" is 26

At 35 i think thats optimistic but i would consider myself to be at a good level of fitness.

That is exactly what they're doing . . . sorry to break it to you guys, but you seriously don't have a VO2 anywhere near that!!

51 but fitness age of 20. I might walk to the station at a quick pace a few times a week and do get out of breath running up the escalators. Resting pulse of 55 thanks to heart attack meds.

biggrin

Oops, I did use inches! When I put in cm, get 64, still younger than 20.

Stats are:

Age 38, 29"/74cm waist, train almost daily, over 30 mins, always train hard.

I'm not exactly whooping with joy but it's nice to be fit I guess.

Ah yeah, same here, adjusted to cm but still got: "

Your VO2MAX is calculated to be
61
and your estimated "fitness age" is
younger than 20"

It's BS though. You can't judge someone's Oxygen uptake and usage on a few measurements and exercise estimations. Last VO2max estimate I took was the rockport 1 mile walk test that I often do with clients and my score was 66.

OBLA is a more interesting test as the test environment is easier to control accurately for the average person - all you need is a good CV machine, HR monitor and a stopwatch. At last test my OBLA score was 95%, which is very nice.

I had a pukka test done years ago when I was beginning training - I was a smoker who drank like a fish and enjoyed curries like they were going out of fashion.

PDF - I was 'normal' - whatever that means. hehe

Way fitter now and no longer drink or smoke. Still have the occasional curry though. wink
