I've not used a lifting belt before but feel that now I'm getting into heavier territory I may benefit from the additional support for max effort squats and deadlifts.
My understanding is 3-4" wide all round is the main priority and though the suede/leather two pronged affairs look dead macho and double hard, I'm wondering whether a Velcro stylee may be better as it has 'infinite' adjustment.
Currently considering Scorpion and RDX plus Cheapy option mainly because Amazon is convenient. getmecoat

Any opinions either way and any recommendations in particular please?

LG, my advice would be to hold off using a belt for as long as you can and give your core a chance to strengthen itself - in the presumption that you have no underlying back issues.

Mind you, if you're only going to use it for 1RM stuff, then fair enough. As for recommendations, I haven't a clue as I don't have one of my own - any time I've felt the need, I've always just used one from the collection at our place.

I'd also say to hold off getting a belt- If you don't plan on competing then I'd probably not bother with a belt at all- they give you an advantage when lifting heavy loads, but do you need an advantage to lift as much as possible? I didn't wear a belt until I was squatting over 180 and deadlifting over 200, which is around where I put one on nowadays.

If you do go for one, https://www.strengthshop.co.uk/powerlifting-belts.... has a decent range.

Slightly O/T here - what do you reckon a belt is "worth" in terms of a Kg advantage?

Varies from person to person and core strength.
My core is a little weak so working on that but gives me a 40kg difference on deads and similar on squat

Yeah, I know it varies - was just curious as to opinion.

40kg though, bloody hell, that's a LOT!

I hadn't trained core in a long time, accident related and been to much of a pussy biggrin
But I'm doing beltless training now to bring it bacl up to scratch.
When I first used a belt I went from a 180kg deadlift to 210kg so still a big improvement for me

Must have some serious problems if you get 40kg out of a belt! I get around +10kg on squats and deads, maybe +5kg for OH stuff.

Like I said I haven't done any direct core work in around a year so it's lacking, OH doesn't make any difference tbh. I just use it so I don't put anything out.

I'd've thought OHP is one of the toughest on core.

ETA. It is the way I do it anyway. hehe
