Chaps

I'd like to get a basic surround sound system set up in my lounge. Wall mount speakers and a sub which I can fence off from mini-me. I'd also like them to look good (I know, audiophiles shoot me now).

I've seen these which I like but would like to know if there are any alternatives you can recommend?

Will be hooked up to a Marantz SR6005 and hopefully a new 55in LED TV (prob LG or Samsung).

Thanks muchly in advance.

I've got Orbs, they are very good for the money and the quality is very high.

I have had the B&W's since 2005 (but not with the PV-1). They are fantastic, more than pleased with them. Been using them with Denon and Yamaha amps and they work extremely well. I didn't get on to well with the KEF sound when I tried them out.

Monitor audio products are generally very good. Not heard the Radius for a long time but was quite impressed, not as good as the B&W though.

I bought my Mordaunt Short Alumni 5.1 4 years ago second hand, for £250 (£500) new and I utterly adore them, combined with a Sony Dg-820 they can rattle the neighbours windows on the other side of their house or I can have them turn down low and still have an impressive soundstage!

Second hand the above package will set you back £400 max, and will give most budget-mid spec systems a run for their money.

Point taken on board WRT the sound of the orbs and Anthony Gallo.

The B&W looks v nice. Sadly I am limited to a fiarly tight budget, so second hand looks like it may be my best route.

Anywhere other than ebay I should look?

I'd agree with VEX. MA all the way. But then again I'm biased. As for second hand/end of line I'd make friends with local Richers Sounds.

You must have some strange sounding blackboards!

Drew, you're welcome to come listen to the Gallos. For price vs performance vs looks, they're great.
