Dental question. How much for a new tooth - a bridge??

The thread about the cost of a clean has reminded me to ask this.
How much to have an old gap filled with a new bridge between the two teeth either side?
Originally quoted £800 by my dentist 3 years ago, then £2000 about 18 months ago, and when challenged on that price she dropped it to £1500 last time I was in about a month ago.
Appointments booked were 1.5 hours, followed by 1 hour two weeks later. So £1500 for 2.5 hours work and some lab work I assume. Seems a lot to me so I cancelled.

That sounds more like it, but it's still a huge amount of money. No wonder more and more people are going abroad and having a week's holiday at the same time! I mean I earn decent money, but even I bulk at the cost of dentistry, how do people on 'normal' money afford it these days?

When I was paying for my initial dental 'consultation' (£104) I was handed the estimate for the crowns and was actually speechless for about 10 seconds. Fortunately the ample décolletage of the pretty receptionist caught my eye and allowed me to regain my composure. In fact I noticed she wore no rings on her fingers... . I asked the dentist if perhaps 24 carat gold crowns might be cheaper than his recommended 'new type' but he just laughed.

Why do you say thats more like it...the bridge has 3 x teeth units...same price . just shows misunderstanding of whats involved. I actually need two , possibly three, bridges done, maybe I should have asked for a bulk discount!
Well French staff costs certainly are! My two assistants cost me, including social taxes, €5500 per month.
Goldblum my comment was in response to Piersman's comments, the tone of which seemed to be suggesting the dentist was pocketing more than his fair share. Of course I may just be being autistic again
ETA Definitely ask for a discount if your doing lots of work Piersman. It's not unreasonable, I would certainly agree to it.

Had a patient come in once who had full arch bridges top and bottom. He said he's just had them done in Morrocco and that he thought there was a "problem".
The occlusion was such that, in centric, only the second molars touched together and all the rest was in open bite up to about 10mm anteriorly.
I'm sure there are bloody good dentists there as well as everywhere else but this one was hopeless.
