Insurance Premium + Dash Cam effect?
Discussion
I've had a quick Google and couldn't find much information on this. Supposedly having a Dash-cam installed can reduce your insurance premium, so far the only company I can find who explicitly state they will offer a discount is Adrian Flux.
I already have a Dash-cam installed so its not something I'm buying just in the hope it will drop my insurance premium.
Has anyone had any success in mentioning to their insurance company they have a dash-cam installed, and received any discount? What was the company, and what was the discount?
Alternatively, have you mentioned to your insurance provider you have a dash-cam installed and they don't care/it doesn't make any difference?

I don't see why a dash cam would affect it that much, if its your fault, its your fault. Regardless of whether you've got a video of it or not.
Think it's for when its not your fault and the other party lie through their teeth and produce witnesses from somewhere. dave7692 said:

Yeah my primary thinking was these stupid 50-50 situations or where the other party spews out some total crap as to what happened. Of all the stories you read on here, it seems a whole lot more common than it should be.
I want to know I was the one in the right, and that its indisputably recorded in my possession should there be any issues if it ever came to making a claim.
So it seems like Adrian Flux are the only company really offering any advantage?

I've used flux loads. Never had a problem with them.
You cant f
k every signle customer about/over.Fair play to them for trying, though...

Best quote on my Z06 just renewed with them for the 3rd time
Best quote on my Mazda (business use) and have used them loads on said car. The car was jinxed when new and claims were dealt with fine. In fact it got its screen cracked yesterday so were only on the phone to them yesterday evening - all sorted no problems.
I think one of my bikes may be with them too. I always shop around and they are always near the top with their quotes.

Maybe, then again thats just for your own piece of mind then really because I expect that its only a small percentage of accidents that the insurers will deal with will end in the kind of dispute, hence the lack of a significant saving.
I'd say in the majority of cases actually. The Hgv that side swiped me was very sorry, said it was his fault. That all changed though. Luckily a guy in a Saab stopped so I had a witness on that occasion. I know many people that have had a similar experience. If you honestly think people just fill in their claim form openly admitting its their fault then I'm afraid you're gonna get caught out one day.
As for telling the insurance you have a cam for a bit of a discount I'm afraid that may not be a good idea unless you drive like an angel at all times. As someone has already said once they know you have it, it could work both ways.

Useful devices imho. Accident a few years back, some twonk crossed lanes and side swipped me on a r/bout. He then proceeded to lie about it (no independent witnesses) + submitted a w/lash claim despite it being a 5mph side swipe rather than a shunt. After 18 months or so insurance co agreed it on a 50/50 basis. Dash camera would have rained on his parade big time.TX.

You've obviously never cancelled a policy part way through and marvelled at the refund of premium then. Usually enough to by a sherbert dip if you're very lucky.
So your sole issue is on their published terms and conditions not actually on the insurance element of a policy. So by that everything Flux do is s
te, I love your logic.Denis O said:

te I'm not sure. I love your interpretation. My issue is with their refund policy, which, if you care to search around 'tintenet, you will find is s
te.I cancelled a £300 Land Rover policy 2 months in. What would you have expected my refund to be? £250 less say a £30 admin fee. Maybe £200. Certainly no less than £150. Not on your life. My refund was £63.
Oh, and of course, we all read the published terms and conditions don't we

What about discussing the topic as per title and not something else? That would be good.
Considering you buy and use Dashcams at your own discretion I don't think any insurance companies are going to lower their premiums for users, if they do it won't be much.
Possible scenarios:
It was pointing the wrong way
It was switched off
It was mounted forward facing, the collision came from the side.
The lense/window was steamed up
If insurance companies were to offer discounts then the cams would need to be:
Fixed
Hard wired
Possibly four of them fitted to cover all angles
Factory fitted or by someone with an official certificate to do so.
A bit like alarm systems.
