Really struggling here,

best I could come up with is the Audi RS4 convertible, BMW M3 convertible.

Can't seriously call the Porsche 911 a four seater, even though I much prefer them it's only fair to rule out the Jaguar XKR and Aston DB9 on the same basis.

Best is subjective. Personally I'd probably say a 285hp Wrangler would be my pick.

Your tastes in cars is certainly unique and never fails to surprise! Good choice though.

Does the Maserati GranCabrio have 4 seats? admittedly I don't know a huge amount about them but they look good and sound nice

Is the SL a 4 seater? I was in a brand new one recently and don't even remember there being a hint of a back seat?

I do however swear seeing some small seats in one before. Maybe an option? Although the amount of room would make them utterly pointless anyway.

Both cars are dynamically ruined by chopping the top off and in both cases the "lesser" engined versions are better as the drivetrain doesn't attempt to rip the car apart if you ever try to drive with gusto (except in a straight line).

I also agree with the other posters - best is seriously subjective in this case.

Merc CLK, Audi A5 ?

I just cant get 4 seat convertibles, they always look a bit wrong, rear seat passengers always look a bit uncomfortable/self concious.

BMW E90 M3 or 6 series

E90 M3 - I have had one for 2 weeks from AE it wasn't comfortable at all on the back seat and forget the boot :-D - perfect for 2 without packages, quite good fun, noisy beast above 6000rpm, ideal 2nd car.

The previous/current 6 series are more comfortable - soft top - large boot

Yes 'best' is subjective. I'm quite happy with subjective answers, I really wasn't expecting any objective ones backed up by empirical proof so fire away!

SLs are 2 seaters.

Only a four seater will do, I already have a great 2 seat sportscar but it would be nice to have a convertible that could accomodate the wife and kids all at the same time.

Looks like there aren't any good ones at all!

Seems an obvious gap in the market to me.

Plenty of "2+2's" but they are all stupid and pointless. '2+2 midget amputees' is nearer the truth.

OP said 'something that will accommodate the wife and the kids all at the same time', not 'something that will accommodate the wife and the kids all at the same time and make them look like knobs'.

If you think driving/riding in a Mustang would make you look a knob, then it says a whole heap more about you, than the car. hehe And I pity you for it.

I vote the 6 series 630/ 645 / 650, a 645 convertible can be had for reasonable money now.

I know it's not in the same league as the Mercs et al, but I really like the Volvo C70. I think they are a great looking car, and nice to drive, too.

Does it have to be new? Interceptor Convertible? It comes with mod cons such as a hydraulic powered hood, power steering, factory fitted aircon, disc brakes all round - oh and a Mopar 440 (7.2l V8).

The front seats are right back in the photo below, but I'm 6f6 - with normal sized people on board, the rear seats are extremely usable. Find one that has rear belts fitted though, mine doesn't!

+1

Although I'd prefer a Challenger - with a 440 six-pack and a manual box.
