Chimaera Prices

They seem to be constantly falling I have a R reg 500 that I paid £16250 for a year ago(facelift rear lights etc). I have spent over a £1000 on it advertised it for £14000 not one phone call and dealers are offering between £10000 to £12000, it looks like I am going to loose over 25% in one year. Will they ever stop falling in price? I should have bought a new Mini like my wife, had it for a year did not spend a penny on it and only lost 10%.
Indeed... now is not a good time to be selling anything expensive. People are thinking about long dark evenings, rain, snow, and christmas. Not buying soft-top sportscars, hence buyers are scarce so prices drop accordingly.
You can immediately add £1000+ to an asking price of today when the weather warms up next spring.

Sadly us owners are the architects of our own downfall as when we "need" to sell our cars, rather than waiting for a buyer to eventually turn up, we drop and drop the prices till someone bites (well lots do anyway) and at this time of year people will shed thousands of pounds to get the sale.
Sadly this has bred the "whats your lowest price" buyer which I find most disappointing. It seems now that people do all the bartering for a Chim before they've even seen the car and typically expect anything from £1,000 to £2,000 off the asking price immediately.
Of course, most people selling Chimaera's go along with this to secure a sale and the vicious circle continues. As an example of this, there was someone on here who bought an immaculate Chim for £13,500 which was a very fair price at the time. About a year later they wanted to sell it and offered it at £12,500 iirc which again seemed very fair to me. From memory the car sold for £10,500 about 2 months later, a price agreed without the new owner having even seen the car.
Ironically I'd have bought it for £11,000-£11,500 when I was looking, but knew that the car was "worth" more than that so didn't try and "beat" the seller down...
its a funny old game.

...The price of Chimeara's on the second hand market will vary with supply and demand. It has nothing to do with muppets selling cars too cheaply and everything to do with the number of buyers vs sellers that are out there.
Just consider for one moment house prices. Too many buyers chasing too few houses and prices have gone through the roof. If more buyers than sellers existed for Chimeara's then the same thing would happen.
So don't call those poor people being forced to sell their Chimeara's at rock bottom prices a load of muppets (and worse). Just offer sympathy that they have fallen on hard times.

Errr..... I think you were the only one to call someone a muppet.
I bought a chimaera recently (just 3 weeks ago in fact) and my buying experience was very varied.
I had a budget and tried, as anyone would, to get the best deal I could for the money i had. I dont know if the guy is still advertising the car but there was one in Manchester that i actually withdrew the money for and arranged a friend to drive me up then i got the HPI result and found that it had been a Cat D insurance write off, the advertiser had said that it had had a little knock!
In the end I called a very genuine guy who had owned the car from new and he told me that he had had several 'tyre kickers' 'boy racers' and 'test pilots' and if the car didn't sell, 98 on an R 46.5K miles in rosso pearlesent quite badly stone chipped and not very tidy on the inside. But a test drive, review of the docs £11,750 and lots of liquid leather cleaner later and i have a lovely car.
I didn't really haggle just looked at what needed doing straight away , repair to one alloy and the stone chips and he agreed to drop the price by £250 and we shook hands.
An equitable and morally sound sale i'd say.

Thanks. I'd seen this one, but Scotland is a bit of a hike for me. I also know that the TVR used car data base can be weeks out of date.

Cheap car, just make sure it's garaged, Rosso Pearl is a nightmare.
Nice car all the same.
