My shiny set of Pirelli Sottos arrived this afternoon and are currently waiting impatiently to be fitted to the car.

My issue is this. The car is on Sportpack wheels and standard Bridgestones, all four with approximately 7mm of tread. Do I have the tyres swapped over and maintain the very pretty look, or do I rummage around in the back of the garage and dig out the original, but naked, seven spoke rims and have my winters fitted to them?

Pros of the seven spokes are that I won't be too concerned about winter damage and the convenience of only having to swap wheels around.
Cons are that I really don't like how they look. I feel they are a very dated style.

Pros of Sportpacks are that they look lovely. End.
Cons are the tyre swap hassle now and in spring and the chance that their shiny finish may not enjoy the winter.

Ideally I'd purchase a third of rims and use those in the winter, but having looked around for a set of alternative used Genuine Parts rims I can't seem to find anything to my liking on the market at the moment.

What about tire pressure sensors? Do you have them on both wheels?

No, but that's not an insurmountable problem really. If the seven spokes go on I'll be using the by-pass method for the box of flashy lights (detailed somewhere else in this part for the forum) for the winter months.

Where did you source your tyres? I'm just thinking about getting some for my DBS and am looking for a good deal. I have the same dilemma regarding wheels only I don't have a spare set. So it's either swap the tyres over or find a new set of alloys. Not sure I fancy stumping up the AM asking price for some new diamond turned ones.

The best prices I have found are on www.oponeo.co.uk I will be looking to place my order and have it changed over next week hopefully.

I was looking at getting another set of alloys as AM do a discounted Winter package with tyres + valves, but the cost difference is too much for 3 months of the year - even after doing man maths to justify the new set of alloys.

Easier to pop them on the spare set for the 4 months you'll need them - no point having winter tyres not on the car wink

If you do swap over to winter tyres, check if your current front wheels are indexed or not to compensate for rotor imbalance. If they are, you'll have to assure that when mounting the new tyres that the fronts are similarly balanced and indexed. Of course, if you have new wheels/tyres fitted the fronts will also require indexing if the current ones are indexed.

Pray forgive my ignorance, do winter tyres make a big difference for regular driving, or are they for zipping down the B640198398 at 60mph?

Only applies to carbon discs as the wheel is used to "index" out any imbalance in the disc
OP has a V8V with steel discs.

Pretty sure that nonsense is only with Carbon Ceramic brake disks. Quite what prevents AML from actually making the disks fit for purpose by balancing them before fitting I can't imagine.
Whatever V8V does not equal CCs so I think you can ignore that.

They improve grip levels in cold weatehr, particularly if you have P Zero COrsa System tyres normally. They make the car drvieable in snow. When driving enthusiastically on a nice day, you will notice that they are less crisp on turn-in. You can feel the give in the tread.

So if I take a wheel off I have to make sure I put it back in the same radial position???

So how come the manual doesn't mention it or the factory mark the orientation?
