Shiny new road bike recalled

As the title. I got a call from Evans yesterday telling me not to ride my bike and get it into a store asap for new forks.

Happy that the problem has been seen and is being acted upon, and with my line of work I've dealt with recalls and it is very difficult to manage.

Not so happy, that the new forks won't be available and fitted until approx Jan 2014.

In fairness the road bike hasn't been used for a few weeks anyway and it wouldn't expect to get much action through winter but I've just bought some rollers (waiting for delivery) to get some winter training in

So off to drop it in early next week where I might get some more detail about the fault from the chaps in the shop.

So Evan's are telling you not to ride the bike until Jan next year and aren't giving you any kind of replacement option? I'd be more than a little irked by that.

I'd be apoplectic and would start hurling around the Sale Of Goods Act until they refunded me and then I'd go somewhere else and buy something not rushed out to market before it was fit for purpose, tbh.

Stop riding the bike you've paid for immediately, we want it for 7-13 weeks to repair it, that's outrageous really.

Yes there was an option of a load bike, but as I have another I'm not taking that up. There is a recompense compensation (not sure if that's the right word) in place for the time without the bike I've paid for, which I have accepted.

If this had happened in the summer when I would want to be out in the sun then, I'd probably have been more annoyed about it, but as it happens the bike would be getting very little use between now and Jan anyway so I can live with that.

Sounds reasonable, in fairness. What was the loan offer? I'd probably have had it just for the comparison.

They just said an issue with forks. As I said on my OP I have dealt with recalls in my work and it is the decision you really don't take lightly.

It is interesting though, that no-one other than me has commented on the Hoy Facebook or Twitter pages about this.

Is it a recall on all Hoy bikes or just a particular batch that could be quite small. That might explain the lack of noise on it.

That's a very good question, to which I don't know the answer. Hopefully I'll find out more when I take it in.

It's done, and I picked it up this afternoon

So this evening's garage activities are; fit the new pedals I have, fit the "out front" mount I got for Christmas and the cadence sensor, then have a quick spin on the rollers.

I've only just come in from the garage. It took forever to get the cadence sensor set up (might start another thread).

I've also discovered tonight that the rollers are easier to master on the MTB than the road bike

Nice to have it back though.
