Tuscan MK1 steering- seeking all info available!!!!
Discussion
Dear fellow PHlers
I urgently am seeking help!! In an foolish attempt to refurbish the steering I am come to a complete halt now.
I collected all available parts to build a complete steering practically from scratch. I bought a new rack from RG which turned out to be the same length and ratio but that feckin thing is slightly different to the old one so the pinion does no longer fit in. Despite the fact the pinion is listed on their spare parts list RG are not able to supply the fitting pinion.
Below you see the difference between the old on the left and the new from RG:

There are roughly 2mm difference in the depth of the teeth, so the pinion I am seeking has to have a 4mm smaller diameter than the one I have. I will add the diameter asap...I do not want to use the old rack because it has scratches in the surface that caused the leaking. I have had this one refurbished by so called experts and it lasted only half a year then leaked again.
I now need and want to collect ANY information I can get my hands on because I want to prevent those of you that are unlucky enough to experience a leaking steering in the future to make the same or similar faults.
This goes out to all the experts (Jason, Don, former TVR employees and virtually everybody else out there)!
Please reveal everything you know!
Does anybody know somebody who has Mk1 steering parts?
Are there blueprints?
Who provided the steering when the Tuscans were built?
I AM REALLY DESPERATE! Please help me to get her back on the road again.
The steering rack that came from my Tuscan built in 7/2002 has 21 teeth and a overall length of 665mm.
I have learned that very early ones exist that have a length of 602mm. That is all I know now. Why they changed the depth of the teeth I can only assume they (who? RG or TVR?) changed that for stability reasons.
Thanks in advance gentlemen!

Colin is trying to solve the problem but I want no longer rely on them alone.
The parts they had in stock were already copies of the original parts and the supplier they had went bust.
I assume that the steering problems will occur more often as our cars age and I am trying to find a solution not only for me but for my fellow Tuscan and TVR drivers. I even had found a company here in Germany that said they could make a copy of my rack but since it is RHD they had not the right tool. They could have made that tool but that would have had cost 1500€. So all they did was stealing 8 weeks of sunny Tuscantime from me
And no - I do not want to make money out of that!
Even if one workshop or dealer would raise his hand in this thread, saying they have all necessary parts would be more than welcome to me!!

I have made some measurements to make the problem more visible and maybe someone can provide information when and how the steering was changed on the MK1 cars. That changes took place is already confirmed.
Here the pictures, as before the old steering rack from my car is on the left:

and here is the pinion I have. From our measurements a fitting one should have 2.5 mm less in diameter where the teeth are:

@Walford: I have spoken to Dean from http://www.powerracksdirect.co.uk/ today but they have no parts but offer refurbing.
I have sent these pictures to him too. We will see what he thinks.
