Early Christmas present to myself
Discussion
So, let me get this right...
I gave you my Vantage for a few hours and you took out a couple of the big heavy tube thingys which contained the roaring tiger that always seemed to be chasing me when I accelerated .. and you replaced the with 2 of of the small light tubes??

Only a couple of questions .. how the f
k did they replace the tiger and fit a bloody great growling snarling monster in those little tubes and how do I get the smile off my face whilst accelerating away from it?

Does sound great. Makes me think that perhaps I should just change the cats instead of the exhaust.

Having driven another hundred or so miles today just to enjoy the noise, I have to say, it really is the most effective transformation in respect of changing the sound of the car and the subjective nature of the power delivery that I have done. I imagine Dave will feel the same.FF
Between us, over the recent years we have probably spent the equivalent of a very nice car changing the exhausts, cats, decats, different exhausts, different cats etc on a host of cars including a Ferrari 355, 2 Ferrari 360's various Lotuses, Evo's, Scoobies, Caterhams, bike engined Westfields and other stuff I have probably forgotten about. Some things have been too loud, others not loud enough, some have been booming at certain revs, others have resonated, sometimes the pitch of the exhaust has changed too much.
This is the 1st time I can think of when such a simple change-over has instantly sounded "just right" in terms of everything. Very happy indeed.
Well after driving the car over the last few days I thought I would give a brief update.
I've got to wholly agree with everything Jim has said, this has to be without doubt one of the best mods I've ever done to one of my cars. The initial idea of fitting the performance cats was to hopefully increase the exhaust sound level, both myself and Jim always thought the cars sound great, however I think Jim summed it up by saying that the only people that had the opportunity to fully appreciate this great sound were those that we're not sat in the car, even my wife thought the car could do with a bit more of a voice.
Thus the choices came down to replacing the exhaust rear box or replacing the cats, after a bit of research it became apparent that to get the greatest increase in sound it was probably best to change the cats.
Well after driving the car over the weekend I still can't get this silly grin of my face I'm just loving it, but I've also noticed a couple of other changes with the car since fitting the cats, without doubt the car seems to rev more freely and almost breath easier, throttle response at low revs seems crisper and I can now blip the throttle on downshifts which release a nice growl, something that never happens before.
I guess this mod might not be for everyone but living up here in Scotland where we don't have to worry about neighbours it makes for great fun.
If anyone what's any information on the performance cats, prices etc give Russell at call at R S fabrications 01295 20266655, he was extremely helpful when we were doing our research and put up with all our calls and questions.
