Young drivers... Sports car with reasonable insurance...?
Discussion
I've hit 21, clean licence, good postcode and have 2 years no claims coming up next month, and finally more lively prospects are becoming affordable/acceptable....
FN2 Type R £1400
FD2 Type R £1900
Focus ST Mk 2 £1150
Focus RS Mk2 £1700
E46 330i £1900
GT86 £1450
MX5/Eunos £900
I've mostly used comparison sites, and the rang up the odd company but obviously the latter has taken a lot longer. So i was looking to see if anyone had come across any decent quotes with more specialist companies, rare cars, be it classic or new, or just anything unusually cheap?
Oh and for any car suggestions, my all in budget (Depreciation, Fuel, Insurance...) is £550 a month.
Cheers

All sounds pretty reasonable for a 21 year old going through a normal insurer.
I'm not sure if the minimum age limits go low enough any more, but I had a string of classic car policies in my early twenties that cost me peanuts. Porsche 924S, Sylva Leader, TVR S3...
A lot of classic car policies seem to place very little loading on road risk. At the time, the company I insured my 924S, for example, with would have done a 968CS or a 928 S4 (of far greater performance) for a similar premium.
As you're probably aware, a car doesn't have to be ancient to qualify for a classic policy. Often there is no age limit for the car. And the usage restrictions aren't as draconian as some would have you believe. You can get a decent mileage limit and commuting cover on a lot of them. The only problem is the minimum age limits that always used to be 21 seem to be creeping up to 25 or 30 in a lot of cases.
If you can get classic insurance it's worth doing. My first TVR cost me £225 a year to insure as a 24 year old.

I'd have thought the first 5 cars on your list are some of the most expensive to ensure for your age/their performance.
May I ask why those cars in particular? Broadening your horizons might mean you can find much tastier metal for similar money. The Jag suggestion above as an example.

They were actually some of the cheapest to insure....May I ask why those cars in particular? Broadening your horizons might mean you can find much tastier metal for similar money. The Jag suggestion above as an example.
EP3 Type R, Clio Sports, S2000, Evos, Scoobys, Elise, VX220 Skylines all broke £2k and onwards to 5 figures.
My horizons are open to anything really. I just want the most for my money with some practicality of a daily drive.
