which car to use - daily decisions....
Discussion
Now insured on my slave car (Polo 1.4 Tdi) I have put the 996TT to sleep under its car cover for a little while.
Never having owned more than a car at a time I have never faced a daily decision on which car to use ? It is actually harder than I imagined. Worryingly I do find the Polo tempts me as the easy choice. I don’t want the Porker to become a garage / weekend queen. Simple answer is use it to commute, but it is not an enjoyable drive.
What criteria do others faced with the same conundrum use to decide which car to use.

Tough call.
When i had a TVR (Chim) and a BMW cab, i told myself i would use the BMW for all commuting and shopping trips, and the TVR would be an evenings/weekends car.
Trouble is, if it was sunny out i'd take the TVR anyway (note, BMW was a 328 cab!).
In your shoes i reckon i'd use the Polo for commuting (boredom) and car parks (supermarket, etc), and the 996 at every other opportunity!

We've got an Impreza 22B Type UK (300bhp, 1250kgs), a Speed Yellow 996 C4S and just about to take delivery of an Audi A3 Sportback 2.0T DSG.
Choosing a car each day is easy...
Monday to Friday I hop on the Kwaka Ninja as it's fastest through London, wife drives the Audi.
Saturday the Scoob comes out to play, when I can live with the noise and the adrenalin rush.
Sunday the Porker comes out for a psycho run down the back lanes to the pub and a nice quiet wife driven ride home to sleep off the red wine.
The hardest choice is track days, but the 22 is far more expensive to repair in case of a minor off (all panels are unique to the model and are in short supply), and i've done loads in it anyway, so the Porker gets the nod there.

Choosing between the 993tt or the tatty old Golf GTi for going to work has been made easier by some slightly socialist envy type reactions when I stuck the porker in the company car park - they're almost all staff and I'm a contractor. The tatty Golf makes them feel sorry for me - much better politically speaking!
If I'm dropping the kids off at school, parking is always a bit precarious and I wouldn't want to leave the porker there.
Family outings - I'm now screwed because of breadsnapper no. 3 - can't go 5 up in the Porsche so take wifie's Espace.
Going into Paris in the evening - you don't park a nice car in Paris unless you have a private garage - the french use bumpers as parking aids to make space.
Basically the 993tt is now a garage queen - pains me to admit it! I really enjoyed last weekend driving to the UK in her for VMax, as at least there was a purpose to the trip rather than just nipping out for a burn.
Maybe I need to buy another porker, but a cheaper, tatty one that I can use on a daily basis without worrying about her?

Humm, I am a contractor at a famous Telco in Newbury and had to use the 996TT for a month and hated parking up. One gets enough flack as a contractor anyway, I was working my nuts off and had no other car to use. I even deliberately parked at the back of the building to mimise visibility. Still got the "your paid to much" clap trap / status anxiety prompted comments.
Must admit I don't use the bikes to come to work as I can't see them from the office and there is no security so I've been using the A8. Today however I used the girlfriends Smart and it was so easy to park and I didn't have to park it around the corner so the permies don't get pissed off. Mate at one office got fired for taking his 360 to work. Nice!
993 cab everyday in the same boat as the rest of you re consultant / contractor bought a 97 993 so that it looked like an "old porsche" really wanted a 996 cab (but my contract is up for renawal, walking on egg shells etc etc)
I don't clean it during the week (its balck) so it currently grey ish and look old !!! as for the parking I hide it !!!!!!
Much less flack than the TVR which was a immaculate and allways clean !!!
