Wing mirrors are not heated - help!
Discussion
Hi,
I have just found out that my 2009 Mini does not have heated wing mirrors. Completely my fault - I bought it off AutoTrader and I guess in my ignorance I presumed it would have them, considering as my 2003 Corsa did.
Anyways... what can I do to help stop them misting up / too many droplets of rainwater etc come Winter.
I looked into getting heated ones fitted but I was told that it is expensive, so I have put that idea on the back burner for a bit.
I have bought some Rain-x, but I don't hold out much hope as the reviews are quite negative. I was also advised to "keep a pack of tissues" in the car, which is fine when I'm parked, but not useful when I'm actually driving.
Sooo...anything I can do or use to help?
Thank you in advance!

Hiya,
Yep, they mist up sometimes when I'm actually driving, or sometimes it is a case of them never actually clearing totally despite me wiping them with kitchen roll before I set out.
This morning, they had a weird smearing all over them, like something had coated the mirror, but it did clear after a bit. I'm presuming maybe from the RainX...maybe I shouldn't wipe them, and just see if the RainX will do its job!

Thank you for the sarcastic replies - usually more mature to not bother answering if you feel like being nasty. It says a lot about your character. It is a problem if the passenger wing mirror has reduced visibility, and you can't reach over to clear it with "your hands."
Stop the car and bloody wipe it then.I think for some of you to vilify a female on the internet is of low character. I came here to ask some advice from people who know more about cars than I do, and to bother to hit 'reply' just to be nasty, rather than ignore the thread shows how misogynistic some of you are. Just because something is trivial to you, does not mean it is not to others. This is not a wind up, I genuinely wouldn't waste my time posting banal rubbish for laughs. I won't bother with this forum again if this is what you get for asking a perfectly polite question.
I understand the benefit you get from clear wing mirrors, and that it isn't possible to clean them as you are driving along.
However, do you drive everywhere backwards? I've never had heated mirrors (not that were working anyway), and the mirror misting up as I was driving has never been more than a very slight annoyance...
Certainly not enough for me to want to do something about it, in the type of weather causing this, windows misting up are much more of a problem...
ETA: To limit the effects, I would use RainX or similar as it will help to keep the dust from settling, and give them a quick wipe before you set off if necessary.

just put some spray on them like rain x and water droplets should just slide off. as for wing mirrors misting up sounds unusual. ive never had a motor with heated wing mirrors and ive always just give them a wipe over.
as for weird smearing on them i think mini must do something like a coat on them because my dad always said about his mini mirrors smearing. give them a proper clean then apply a coat of spray hopefully it cures the problem

Laugh. I wonder who this is really.Anyway, I think you're over-reacting and the sarcastic replies really don't say anything about anyone's character beyond their incredulity at someone making a fuss about non-heated mirrors.

Ha ha, how were we to know you're a woman. If you'd said that first of all, we'd have cut to the chase and you'd have been told any or all of the following:1) Calm down dear, it's only a bit of mist.
2) Get a towel from the kitchen to wipe them with next time you're in there.
3) You needn't worry about the side mirrors misting up, as you never use them.
4) You need only worry about the vanity mirror misting up as that's the only one you use.
5) a detailed description of how mist forms on a mirror, how to reduce it, how to retro-fit heated mirrors, followed by an offer to "pop round this evening to help you out".
I am joking, by the way, but assuming you are a woman and you are not taking-the-p*ss, as someone above noted, you've not exactly done the sisterhood a favour here.
If the problem is genuinely occurring then I suspect you'll just have to live with it, short of retro-fitting heated mirrors.
