Tamiya 1/32nd scale Mossie in the Works....

So that's Tamiya and HK models possibly doing a 1/32 Mossie. Since they will probably be in the same price bracket I'd go for the Tamiya kit, particularly if the Mustang and Corsair are anything to go by, not to mention the three Spits and Zero.

That sounds pretty cool, its a lovely plane.

I did the Airfix 1:24th a couple of years ago which is mahoosive so a 32nd scale would be more manageable.

I'm amazed there's a market for it. They've already got 1:72 and 1:48 versions covered. Same with their Spitfires etc. I guess, but I wonder why not pick something completely new to model rather than invest in a subject that's already well served in other scales?

Strange thoughts there hasn't been a mainstream 32nd Mossie for Years (even though Revell have announced that they're putting their early '70s BIV back into production)

HK are rumoured to be developing a 32nd one but there's actually been no sight of it yet, but to say that you're amazed that there's no market for it I find strange, Airfix sold 4500 of the 24th scale one so the market's there imo also there's a lot of people that won't build in 24th because of the sheer size of some of the subjects launched. A super high quality one in 32nd will be a big seller, but I hope they correct the main flaw of their 48th scale kit which is the overheight Fin/Rudder assembly (it's 4 scale inches too tall!)
and is very noticeable if not corrected on that kit.

Anyhow! Airfix are apparently making a "BIG" announcement this morning at Telford, and the rumour mill is suggesting a 24th scale Hawker Typhoon is going to be with us soon!

Knowing what tamiya are like I wouldn't he suprized if they cancel this now. They have done it in the past when this kind of thing has happened. Someone is going to be in trouble...

If you think about it when the Tamiya techs visited KA114 in Virginia
They will have made sure that it was kept quiet.

Now consider that they might've found out that the HK one is out in
The new year, and theirs won't be out 'till the end of the year, it doesn't
Take a genius to to think that a leak might sway potential buyers of a
32nd scale Mossie to wait and buy theirs.

Also knowing how some Japanese companies work (I've worked in consumer
Electronics for nearly 30 years) I also wouldn't be surprised if they figured out

Judging by the amount of people who appear to buy multiples of Airfix kits vs. the completed models you see (e.g. on Britmodeller), I've often thought that Airfix should include a "U-value" along with the skill rating on their boxes.

You're seriously saying that a 52mm high fin rather than a 50mm high fin is really going to be noticable?

Did someone mention rivet counters?

Sad I know but I noticed it as soon as i'd finished assembling the first one I made when the kit launched!

One thing I've always wondered about is the choice of scale.

The widely used scale for AFVs is 1:35, so why do aircraft in 1:32?

Anyone know why?
