I have been trying to sell my 2006 Honda Accord Tourer on Autotrader. Its not the best example out there on paper (part SH, 4 keepers) but is keenly priced and mechanically and cosmetically is in top notch condition. There is nothing similar within a 50 mile radius so no competition.

The advert has had 267 views in 7 days but I have not had a single call. I have only had 3 scammers emailing me.

Are these cars really so un-popular? Its not the most exciting to be sure but I would have expected at least the odd tyre kicker by now.

Anyone managed to sell one of these?

It could be your advert wording or the pricing itself.

Don't forget, some people seem to value their items higher than someone buying them would.

If you aren't getting a lot of interest, it could be the above.

Also, if could be the time of year. I guess winter cars sell more now and will be fetching the premiums. Everything else will need to be a little cheaper.

The price is with a view to them knocking me down. It is below the Glass valuation for the year, mileage and options.

I would post a link to the ad, but I am guessing that maybe against the rules?

Unfortunately, yes.

Could be demand at the moment. As I said above, people would be thinking about winter snotters.

Incidentally, could it be something to do with the vehicle's condition? You said it wasn't the best example around, so is that putting people off?

I'll be honest, I don't think they are a popular car. I was looking for a saloon recently, and just the looks and interior quality made me cross them off my short list immediately, and that's before image comes into it.

I am not sure of Honda's image anymore. At one stage they were considered old peoples cars, then they went with tacky Type-R's (ie, not as specialist as Type-R's originally were) in an attempt to appeal to young buyers, and now they don't really have anything that defines them as a brand, and share a market with Ford Mondeo's and Vauxhall's. Their cars are very beige in their appeal, though as a used bargain for an older person they would be perfect, it's just finding the right buyer.

It sounds like you have the price right, so maybe just need to give it more time to see if any buyers come along that might consider one.

I looked for one for a mate a couple of months ago and couldn't find a decent example.

If you want a spacious, reliable estate for sub £8k, it's a good choice IMO.

Honda's issue is that they make nothing but pretty dull cars at the moment; they NEED another ATR or even better, an NSX replacement.

Its a petrol 2.0l. Is is the SE model so no leather or sat nav but does have some optional extras (phone prep, large alloys).

The negatives are that it only has a partial service history and has had 4 former keepers. It is in good nick though.

It is a dull car. It has a huge boot though. Same size as the Audi A6 I had previously.

Need to shift it before a company car comes along. At this rate I will be taking it to We Buy Any Car for a few beer tokens.

Funnily enough I've just been scouring the ads for cars and was looking at these.

What strikes me is how good value they seem to be for what seems to be a good car. They all generally seem to be well equipped also.

I had my mind set on a Volvo S60 but struggling to find a good one in my area. Do these make a good car for trudging up and down motorways?

OP, just had a thought. Have you tried selling on here or on the dreaded Ebay?

I haven;t tried on here. Didn't think it was a very "PH" kind of car. Fleabay I guess is the next option.

They are good value and massively reliable. In the two and hald years I have had it I have put a new set of tyres and front brake pads on and that's it.

They are good on the motor, quiet and comfortable. MPG is pants on mine, but its a traditional auto and petrol.

As has been mentioned above, they are solid, but a little boring. I guess you are right when you state they aren't such a 'PH' car. However, all manner of cars get advertised on here so that isn't a problem.

At this moment in time I'm not in a position to buy, but I have been looking at an estate with plenty of space. An Accord estate would be a good option. I just don't have the funds yet. smile

All valid points.

I tend to price at the bottom of what I'm willing to sell at, generate a few calls so that I have a list of viewings in order they contacted me.

I tend to share that with the first viewer and create a 'price is not really negotiable as I have a list of alternatives waiting to view after you'. Always been a winner for me with the first to view buying, normally with a final nominal £100 knocked off so they drive off feeling they negotiated a deal.

There's your problem. To the uneducated petrol is expensive to run.

I know somebody who let his wife sell their 2007 S3 and replace it with a 2012 A3 diesel, she does 12 miles a day to work!

Thanks. Glass says £4.6K. I have advertised at £4.5K with a view to taking anything over 4.

I will try dropping the price to £4.2K to see if that generates some interest. Someone can still knock off a couple of hundred quid and be happy.

Probably too expensive in my view. I've just sold my 2007 2.4 Ex, absolutely mint, full history, highish miles for £3k. Mundane, but fab car. Did what it said on the tin. I've replaced it with a 3 year old Accord Tourer diesel. Again, not exciting but does what it says on the tin and has a massive amount of kit. Oh and the fact that's not BM or Audi
like nearly all of my street.

They are good but boring cars in my view. But that suits me. :-)

IMO most people will either be looking for a cheap one, or a good one. Even if yours is fairly priced for it's condition, if it isn't one of these two things it will struggle to generate interest. Unfortunately there is not a lot you can really do about it except drop the price or wait.

This one, then?:

I'd say it was over-priced, but then it sounds like you know that. smile
