Hey guys,

I am currently in the hunt for an RX7 and doubt I will find the perfect one until after Christmas now. So this got me thinking, I would like to get a second engine and rebuild it over time. I think this way I can learn about rotaries and also have a second engine to hand should a water seal or rotor apex break.

One thing got me thinking though, how do I know the engine that I rebuild will actually work? I dont want to go through the hassle of fitting it to a car just to check.

Any ideas would be grand.

As with any other engine the best thing you can do is hook up a battery and starter motor and do a compression test. The target figure for rotary engines is much lower than for piston ones though. I'm sure you can find manufacturer specs for yours.
