Hiatus hernia been diagnosed and probable surgery to mend. docs advised against any great increase in abdominal pressure. This will count out most of Crossfit and indoor rowing. Thats all I enjoy! So should I just keep blasting till surgery or back off now as damage has been done anyway? Was aiming for English champs for rowing and winning the elusive gold for 500m...unlikely now. Any other sufferers out there?

You really need an answer to that? I wonder if your thoughts of continuing exercise with a delicate internal part of your body forcing it's way into a section where it shouldn't be, just waiting for a moment to repture and causing death in minutes not to mention a probably spraying Hydrochloric acid all over your lungs, are what attracted you to Crossfit in the first place? I mean, the pain would be awesome, only matched by the internal damage.

The damage hasn't been done yet!

The real question is did Crossfit cause this hernia? Cowboyism well known for causing all kinds of injury and Crossfit is right near the top of the list.

Just for fun, google "Crossfit and injury". Enjoy reading the numerous hits...

I was diagnosed with HH 6 months ago. I take a daily tablet to take the acidity down a tad, nothing more.

I asked the surgeon - following endoscopy what I should avoid, he said "Nothing". Asked about sports/excecise etc and again "carry on as per normal". Been doing quite a few core excercise for a few months and no change.

My feeling is if it doesnt hurt when you do it, crack on.

I was diagnosed with a HH about 20 years ago.

I played a fairly high level of sport for about 12 of those years and go to the gym daily. If I get indigestion I take a Rennie and I don't eat too much spicy food. Never had any problems.

Saying that, you should take a doctors advice over mine!

Yawn. Didn't realize I had to have any as not charging for the service.

I just wanted to know the kind of qualification that you must hold in order to give completely dangerous advice that flies in the face of what he was told by his doctors and to do so with some sense of authority. rolleyes
