The reason I say this is whilst on my way to the mot station (waiting at the moment) I had a new Ford Mondeo up my rear so when safe I floored the S2 in second and third and yes the Mondeo was right behind me.
Once at a set of traffic lights he pulled up next to me making a right turn and to my surprise it wasn't even a ST Mondeo just a TDi
Then later down the road a Diesel golf got the better of me!!!
My S still goes like the wind but these modern cars are so quick.

Oh well mine made the nice noise. Lol

In the 60's I owned a slightly modified AJS 350 motorcycle, and yes, I was out with all those bikes for the Friday or Saturday night blast to Blackpool or Southport! We passed everything on 4 wheels!
A few years ago and I was out on a similar bike and a granny in a basic Fiesta passed me, admittedly on a dual carriageway.
I had to get a modern 600 Honda to get the advantage back! evil
The S is enormous fun but the absolute adrenalin junky the 'bike is on a different plain altogether.

Too true unfortunately. Modern cars may have less, but they do more with it.

Sad to say I had to sell my near mint Suzuki GSXR 750 SRAD last month so I really understand what you are saying, the S is great fun but can't compete with the average modern car with regards to performance

I'm pleased to say she have gone through without any problems, so pleased all the effort with my welding has paid off.

Forget the new mondeo. My 2006 2.0 tdi (and only the 130hp not the 150 version) is quicker than the S if you are going from anything above 20mph to around the speed limit. But it doesn't give you the smiles and you can't corner in it the same way.

But if you want a TVR for raw speed you wouldn't have an S these cars are for fun driving not out and out speed.

in answer to your question......yes

my every day driver is a BMW 2.0 tdi estate and has 200 bhp, but weighs over 1.5 tonne. still quick though and 55mpg.

you cannot compare a 20 year old car with a modern one.....just drive each as intended....

Even something like a new 320d would walk away I reckon. Technology has come a long way. Doesn't make them more fun though. Give me seat of the pants and no electronics everyday.

Had exact same thing happen to me a few years ago. But considering the huge cloud of smoke coming out of the exhaust I fear that his moment of glory didn't do his engine much good. Didn't understand why he felt the need for it either as I wasn't even trying really- just normal spirited acceleration under a bridge to get some noise effects!

Tend to agree with the majority here in that moderns generally feel quicker - but the V8 still lays waste to a large proportion if required. But most of the time, there's no need for vulgar displays of power - its about the experience, and you can bet on a sunny day there's plenty in their moderns who would want to swap cars for yours. The other thing is, no mater how quick they are, most modern cars are as dull as censored to look at.

This must be true as mine is blue and I don't seem to have this problem either.. everyone drives slowly round here... wink
