Looks quite nice. The purist in me gets annoyed when the ads bang on about the 2.7RS trying to make out that the 75S is just a slightly de-tuned RS!

There seems to be mixed feelings about the 2.7 CIS engine. Some people seem to like it and some are unimpressed. I suspect that when the early CIS is working well it's good, but when it's not it's horrid. The ad mentions CIS work, so it could be good.

As always the devil is in the condition aka rust. Needs checking out by an expert I'd suggest.

That's my view, I have a target list of 6 cars I want to buy ASAP, The 2.7s are thin on the ground. I will give Autofarm a ring

The 2.7 CIS is a poor engine indeed. But I guess time is a great healer...I shudder to think how close I came to buying one back in the '80s

It would be on my list of six cars to avoid!

Not Porsche's greatest moment though most, if not all, would have been sorted during rebuilds by now.

The impact bumber Carrera 2.7l 'RS' cars have clouded the water, I think. I can remember when they and Carrera 3.0ls were worth little but I bought a 2.4l F Series instead (also worth next to nowt).

The 2.7l CIS cars are probably still turds, though.

My pal just bought a 2.7 75 and although it isn't in great nick, and not particularly fast, it was a lot of fun to drive

I recently had a 1977 2.7S and it was a joy to drive and looked really nice with the narrow body and 6" wheels,

Yes, sold to Nick Faure, with some regrets.

The 2.7S is a poor relation to the earlier MFI engined cars, although in good condition would still be fun to drive. But you would be far better off looking for a later SC, which has a much improved engine and will likely cost less to buy as they are still perceived as a poor man's Porsche. An early SC on 15" wheels would look pretty much identical to a 2.7S, but would be significantly faster and inherently more reliable (condition dependent of course). Don't be fooled into paying over the odds for a 2.7S due to tenuous links with the 2.7RS etc. Finally condition is everything with any classic 911. Unfortunately most are rusty old dogs underneath.

Or you could go for a '74 / '75 2.7 Carrera complete with virtual 2.7RS spec and Impact Bumpers ..

Nice idea, but quite a lot more money for equivalent condition. A '76/77 Carrera 3.0 would be another option, but also getting pricey now and very rare. The later SC is a bargain in comparison to any of the earlier Carreras. For me the 2.7S is a non-starter unless dirt cheap, which it probably isn't.

Or unless it's been properly restored.
I'm running a '76 2.7 non S with a Carerra 3.0 engine transplant. Narrow body and putting our around 220bhp it's a lot of fun..

yes

Chocolate head studs, low power and when you pull the motor apart for a rebuild the cases warp as they're made from chocolate too. Well chocolate covered cheese.

What would a 1974 2.7 or 2.7s (not sure which it is yet) be worth nowadays? Only a few owners, rot free but engine probably needs a full rebuild as not running but car has only covered a genuine 78000 miles. Curious as just come across an acquaintance who has one sitting in his garage needing some TLC.

Correctly restored it will probably return what you spend unless you are in the trade. Great looking things, but even with 911 prices on the up these are following rather than leading...
