Hi peeps,

We are running a netgear wireless network connected to a realtek cable modem. This is working really well now, apart from it seems to lock up every couple of days. we lose connection and have to shut the whole lot down, leave it unplugged for a couple of minutes and re-boot it all. Anyone any ideas why it's doing this and what we can do to overcome it.

cheers,

Mick

Have you got the latest Netgear firmware ?

I had a similar problem and the updates solved it.

I believe so, but it doesn't appea to be the router thats the problem as signal strenght and connection that far are excellent, it's the actual net connection that seems to be the problem. I may be wrong there though....Will check for netgear firmware updates.

Funny,

I have a netgear wireless router and have this problem occur about 6-8 times in the 8 months I have been using it. I always assumed it was BT at fault (my ISP), and did not like to install updates when "if it ain't broke, why fix it". maybe I should look at some updates afterall.

Cheers

Paul

AFAIK your broadband provider may be changing the IP address of your modem from time to time as a kind of security measure, which probably means your router loses its connection with it.
