Now I'm sure a lot of you don't know this little gem but I relived a revelation today.

I recently bought another chim with standard seats and thought from day one that the handling was inferior to my sorted old chim.

I took the Monos off the old chim and fitted them to the new one, this improved matters somewhat and the new drop links helped as well.

The car still felt odd, vague even with me piloting the car on the standard slidey, bouncy seat.

Well today, due to the forthcoming TD, I resurrected an old Elise seat from the loft and fitted it.

The drive I took later was a revelation, truly an unbelievable improvement!

No more sliding about, no more bouncy bouncy on the over sprung seat, I actually felt as one with the car.

So, for the future, I'm on the look out for a really nice pair of Exige seats that can be upholstered to match.

Where's the "happy bunny" smiley?

I also feel that support from the standard seats is somewhat lacking.

Do the Elise seats fit on standard Chim runners fairly easily?

since when is 2.5k 'cheap as chips'??

good job decent seats can be had for much less...... 'rally' seats are dated and only last 5 years - even if not used!! There is a market and no other motorsport or events take any notice of the date.

Mine are mounted on fixed frames knocked up by a mate and bolted to the floor.

I believe standard runners can be adapted as the Elise base is flat.

I can well believe the improvement a more supportive seat could give in these cars, the standard seats are fine for touring but even I find them unsupportive in the bends.

Have you tried the CG lock Peter?

I hear it takes things up another level in the support stakes.

I think you should try it out at your next track day & give us a review.

Got a CG lock, tried it when I used my old VRs on a winters snowy TD, works well.

I've been using a 4 point harness the last 4-5 years.

Interesting, would you say it's a worthwhile mod for those of us still with standard seats?

PS: I really must finish off my XJS seats rolleyes

After that TD, I left it on the VRs and used it all the time.

From memory the Chim seat belts are strange and the CG lock needs to be fitted upside down iirc.

I still have mine but won't fit it to this chim as the 4 point is fitted.

I was wondering what happened to the XJS seats.

What are your dimensions ?

I find the stock seats very good indeed when adjusted, I'm a perfect 5'8" and 12 stone ish.. Once my bum is back all is good.

6-3", 14 stone.

The seats are awful for a sports car, as Dave said, they're for a cruiser.

Just compare them to a Z4, Boxster etc and there is no comparison.

They have no support for spirited driving and the seat base is like a bouncing castle.

My wife summed it up perfectly, she loves the standard seats and what does she know laugh

Fancy selling me yours then Peter if you're not using it?

I reckon my XJS seats & a CG lock will be the perfect combo for me tongue out

The stock seats are bloody awful for throwing the car around IMO semi Comfortable yes but crap for a sports car, its like they came out of an old Leyland upmarket Vandem Plas of some sorts.

That about sums it up laugh

Dave, if you want to borrow the CG lock and see how you get on, pm me your address and I'll bung it in a Jiffy bag.
