Black pudding

which supermarket bought black pudding is recognised as the best by the PH masses.

Don't get time for the butchers, so most of the time stuff comes from the supermarket.

Was wandering around Tescos the other night on my way home, and stumbled a cross the black puddings and fancied some for breaky on Sat morning.... but which one ? I looked at few and they just seemed a long list of chemicals, so I settled for Clonakilty from Ireland which had a list of ingredients I recognised...... however when I cooked some up yesterday I wasn't to keen on the texture ( to much oatmeal ?)

so what is good and which supermarket sells it ?

Morrison's own brand is OK for using in things as an ingredient, or in a bacon and black pud sarnie, but doesn't compare to Stornoway stuff.

Tescos, off the deli counter is OK - just ask for a tenth off a whole ring ( should cost less than 50p) and give it a try

I bought Clonakilty last week too and came to the same conclusion. Too many oats.

IMHO the best stuff is the squishy Spanish Morcilla. :drool:

The Laverstoke park stuff is rather good, available from Ocado (and probably Waitrose too). PH approved because the company is owned by 1979 F1 champ Jody Scheckter

costco's is excellent, massive sausage (guffaw) and not too pricy either & m&s's is good but you don't get much for your money

I'm not a fan of black pudding which has huge chunks of fat in it.

IME Harrod's is the nicest. It has nice juicy grains in, but no noticeable chunks of fat. I'm sure it can't be that difficult to discover who the supplier is.

Could be wrong on this, but I believe it was "inventented", so to speak, in Bury.

So they must know a thing or two about quality etc.

Hope this doesn't cause a run on BBP at my supermarket.....

Well bury or more specifically Ramsbottom (where mr richwig83 is from) is home of the black pudding throwing championship... So it stands to reason that it's from those parts.

I think black pudding existed a long time before possibly even Ramsbottom.

I too am not a fan of the Bury stuff. The chunks of fat in it are too much. Biased as I'm from there but the Stornoway recipe leaves you with a much cleaner mouth, instead of a big greasy coating.
