Been looking at picking up a Nikon D7100 but struggling to decide if it's worth going for the kit lens too. From reading around, the 18-105mm kit doesn't sound like much cop.

I already have a Sigma 10-20, former kit 18-70, 70-300 and a 50mm F1.8. The 18-70 isn't up to much either but I was thinking of picking up a 35mm F1.8 too and making do.

Have lenses moved on that much recently?

I really don't think so, apart from some clever coatings.

I challenge you to find a well regarded Nikkor from 10 or maybe 20 years back and take some photos. The practicality is that great glass is always great glass! Ebay bargains have always been my friend!

I dont rate the 18-105. Its ok but distinctly woolly towards 105.

If I had a crop I would be looking at that nice 18-35f1.8 zoom now.

Thanks chaps. Having double checked the camera has an autofocus motor I'll keep my eye on eBay for something interesting, lens-wise.
