That. That's the same exact feeling I got when I found out that my BMW 640d uses Active sound Design like in the M5/M6

:/

I thought it sounded a bit too good for a diesel!

Look on the bright side: your girlfriend/car loves you enough to fake it. If she/it thought you were a , she/it wouldn't bother.

Haha not talking about my ex-gf here, lazy fat bh couldn't move her leg, let alone fake any noise

Basically it's an amplifier/noise generator which produces engine noise in the car's speakers

Jesus, that's horrific.
To be fair, though, if you had never realised then it must be pretty good. Far better than what I imagine when I read that.
I just picture an old car I had who's crap stereo somehow tuned into the engine revs and the static emulated the revs in a bizarre way

I thought the Amplifier had enough on its plate already; to take a digital signal from the iDrive and read signals from two microphones in the cabin, use DIRAC sound processing on it along with Dolby PL II surround sound, equalise it, and send it off to 16 individual speakers - let alone to have to synthesise engine noise and make it sound right based on throttle position, revs, etc.!

Fake engine noises. Was that a cost option?

Hey, that's what I used to do in my 1979 Honda civic so it sounded like race car.
