OK - I had 25 miles showing on my trip computer & the fuel needle was just above the red, light on.
Stopped & put 22 litres of Optimax in the car (a 996 TT) paid & drove off. Neither the needle or the digital gauge registered the petrol....still said 25 miles.

So...went back - checked the pump, pump OK. Filled her right up & then the display now says 211 miles.
Now I know that a full tank shows a lot more than this on complete fill up, so something is wrong there....any ideas ?

Hole in the float in the fule tank?

Happened to a (very) old Cavalier of mine - if you ran the tank dry it would register full on refilling, but you could literally watch the gaugue drop as the float filled up and slowly sank!

Emms got the same sort of OBC on the Boxster.

After she filled up after Brunters on Sunday, it reckoned she had 180 until empty!

Bit of driving later and it had gone up to 370 odd, which is normal.

Could it have been that? Dunno why nothing happened when you first filled up though....

Surely that's just the trip computer averaging out the consumption over the last few miles?

possibly - only done about 3 miles after full fill up - so maybe drive home will adjust it upwards ?

This it quite normal. The gauge on the 996 is very slow to register the fuel. I have exactly the same problem and it takes a couple of miles before it shows "full" after filling it up. Quite a nice feeling to se the "miles remaining in the tank" creaping up as you drive though!

The OBC won't register a quick splash & dash, you need to put a fair amount in before it re-sets! If you still have a problem after a decent fill up try locking & unlocking the car to re-set the system, should work!

Thanks all.

It did indeed sort itself out, & yes, very nice to see the miles to empty creep up rather than down (for a little while anyway !)
