Leaky car is leaky. Help!!
Discussion
Hi
Sadly, the shed is rapidly turning into a ship.
I have a 1999 Avensis, and it's rusting along the leading edge of the roof (where the front of the roof meets the top of the windscreen and around the base of the radio aerial). Stupidly didn't notice the rust when I bought the car in June.
The grot runs 3/4 of the way along the leading edge. I would SAY it IS fillable, but it's a windscreen out job.
Any ideas how much it'd be to have a half decent job done on it? My FIL is happy to help me grind/kill/fill/paint but the windscreen is above our joint payscale.
Obviously it's a £750 car. It runs pretty well and has impeccable service history. I like it because it's a bit different (Sr in a pretty rare colour) so as sheds go it's good. But obviously each expenditure has to make sense.
Any advice/tips/help/recommendations more than welcome. I've just put a run of duct tape across it at the moment (lol) as it's beginning to soak the headlining and mist me up like a Scandinavian sauna.

As much as I like the car, anything past June 2014 (MOT time) is a bonus. Absolute best case scenario is I can run it for two years when it'll have about 170k in it. Even then with a full MOT and full history it's got to be worth £500. As long as it keeps the wet out I'll be happy.
(Thanks for all your help, much appreciated)

If you are bodging it, which I would do if it is holed as opposed to simply rusty and on the way there, I would bodge it with flashband. For roofs. Yes really. And overlap the rubber all the way to the glass. If you did this, and you were gutsy enough to give it some heat (blowtorch) then you would be weatherproofing the screen 100%.
It is self adhesive, so even if not you should be OK. I would still use a hairdryer on it to soften it, form it better and help it adhere even more.

Bugger
Just gone to inspect the car today and the windscreen is now also cracked. This kind of forces the issue, if I fudge it gt will need to be undone soon enough when the glass has to come out. Hopefully we can get the windscreen technician to remove the current windscreen then come back a few days later once we've finished the repair
Thanks for all of your help, but this has changed everything.
