Last week whilst connecting my new CTEK battery charger/conditioner
I removed the plastic battery cover to be confronted with a battery sat in 2-3 inches of water!, the drain had become blocked or stuck shut, I put a thin plastic stick into the drain tube and the water all drained away.the first I would have seen this is when the water reached the fan for the interior and or water inside the car.
So I strongly advise to go and check yours, it may save an expensive bill.

seams to be a common fault on the 171 bad design

Just a simple blocked drain
Unblocked and all is well now.

When looking for a 171 I found water stains in the passenger footwell by the netting for the manuals. Open the manuals and most were wrinkled.

I bought one without stains and then had to have the heater motor replaced along with the (stupidly sited) 12v outlet.

The mechanic said that if you keep your car outside or drive a lot in the rain, the drain is a service item.
