I recently discovered that the passenger side door on my car is full of water,

I'd been hearing a small sloshing noise for a week or so now, and at first I just presumed that there was a bottle of water or something underneath the seat that I'd forgotten about. But the sloshing's been getting louder and I found no beverages in my car.

I only got the car in the spring, so this is the first bout of rain since I've owned it.
A quick Google search shows that this is quite common in Mk 6 fiestas, I tried clearing the drainage holes as suggested when I googled but the raging torrents that I hope would suddenly emerge from the bottom of my door when I did this never came.

I'd really like to get this water out ASAP to avoid rusting/damaged electrics. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be grateful if you chaps could give me some answers to these...

- If I take this to my local Ford dealer, with the car out of warranty, how much are they likely to charge me, and will they offer a permanent fix?

- Could any old mechanic sort this out at a lower cost, or could I even do it myself? (bearing in mind I already tried to clear the 2 drainage holes, albeit with an old knife in the dark)

Thank you all smile
Sam

Can't be that hard to get the door card off & poke the holes from the inside. I'd try again with a bit of stiff wire from outside though, could be your knife was too fat to get all the way up the hole.

I think that might have been the problem, I'll have another fiddle with it tomorrow in the daylight before I take it somewhere.

I'm just a bit worried that I'm going to have to do it every bloody time it rains if I can't find a permanent solution

My thoughts are if it blocks up again then take the door card off & clean out the bottom of the door as there will be something in there reblocking it.

Sounds like your car is too new, but I had an old car with mould growing inside the door & lumps used to fall down & block the drain holes at various times.

You could drill additional holes but if you do, make sure you paint the edges.

When I went to sort it this morning and it had drained during the night - obviously last night I managed to dislodge something even if it didn't look like it at the time smile

If you look at underside of door where the skin is joined there are a few slits for the water to drain out. There is some sort of wax oil in the door that blocks these slits, push a small screw driver up and wiggle and the water comes out. I've had to do it to mine a couple of times. Hope I've not answered a question that has already been answered.

Sloshing in the passenger door for a couple of days then it went overnight.

Well, this happened again recently,

However, whereas last time when I unclogged the drainage slits the water seeped out overnight slowly, this time it absolutely gushed out!

I had this problem a while back after days of heavy rain, simply the drain holes in the bottom of the door were blocked, simply find a coffee stirrer or similar and wiggle it in the hole

The water came gushing out along with some crud that was blocking it.

No need to take the door apart.
