I'm Currently pondering replacing my 996 with something different.

I have a VW Transporter DSG company van for work which also has private use, so my car is just for fun weekend blasts etc.

I had wanted a 911 for years and finally have one and loved every day of owning her but i think i want something higher up if that makes sense. Getting fed up of being low down and having crap visibility especially at night in ste weather.

The will be going up for sale in the new years after i have put a new MOT on it and got the service out the way.

Looking to spend around 15k but can go up to maybe 20k for the right car.

Petrol
Manual preferred
Decent power
MPG not important as long as it has performance to justify it
comfort (quieter and nicer ride than the van needed)
4wd/AWD/RWD only

Things i have been looking at

Monaro. There a few supercharged examples about that have already had the money spent on them.

Supercharged Range Rover, dunno why just like them

M5, like but the autobox puts me off a bit

M3 V8 cant think of any down sides apart from it looks just like most other 3 series.

RS4 nice but not convinced.

M6 never heard any good feedback

AMG's C55 and so on, possible C63

I will be keeping for around 12 months as i do with most cars i buy so resale is important. I know i wont make money but id prefer to loose as little as possible.

Any different suggestions?

How about E39 M5? Buy a good one and you should be able to sell on for little loss in 12 months.

Lexus ISF!

Had a similar dilema to you, wanted the reliability of the germans but still had to have fun factor. Was a toss up between the RS4 (To many problems and starting to age + silly fuel consumption) M3 V8 or ISF. As I dont really do any trackdays and cant stand BMW service + like something a bit different, so I went for the ISF.

Bargains to be had now and Ive only seen 1 other on the road. Stupidly rapid and due to the 8 gears you can get near 30mpg on a run.

I came from a C55 AMG which was great fun, but compaired to the ISF is like driving Ben Hurs Chariot and the gearbox is stone age!

Hadn't thought of the ISF. Nice car. will look a little more into these.

E39 i like but looking quite dated now i think.

Cayanne Turbo's are fast for a big 4x4 but i think they look a bit awkward as standard.

Not sure i want to spend double on a 996 turbo just for 100 or horse power more and still be in the same low car with the same interior ect.

Is the ISF available with a manual box?
