I have the wheels below and they are ready for a refurb.

The question is can the decals (vinyl) be applied in between the base coat and the clear coat when powder coating?

If vinyl is not suitable, what material is?

Thanks

Steve

I have the same wheels on my 320si. I had one refurbed at Thursby blast shop near Carlisle. I think they were powder coat primed then painted, then new decals applied then clear coat over the top. They look as new. I think he made the decals himself so not sure if they are vinyl.

I'm guessing that due to the temps reached when powder coating the vinyl will shrivel up in the oven. I'd have them refurbed and then apply the decal over the top.

That is the plan. That way there is no risk of screwing up the refurb. New decals are cheaper than new refurbs.

In on Wednesday for refurb and change to non RFT.

This will happen, so we apply decal over the top.

Powder coating bakes on in the region of 200degC, most vinyl will be soft and wrinkly at 120degC.
