I recently sold my 991s to an official Porsche centre, it had covered just under 9000 miles in its relatively short life. Quite by chance, a pal of mine mentioned that a work colleague was looking at a 991 and given his location I mentioned that I'd recently sold mine to a dealer in his area, one thing led to another and it turns out that it's my old car that has caught his fancy. He telephoned me to ask a few questions (like what I got for it) and in the course of the conversation mentioned how low the mileage was for an 18 month old car, it had just 4000 on the clock!!!
To say I was astonished would be an understatement, I'd always imagined that clocking was the preserve of the sheepskin coat brigade, not main dealers, especially at the high end. I have contacted trading standards and will do what I can, but thought I would put the word out there for any unsuspecting soul placing his/her trust in main dealers in the future. Caveat emptor.

A main dealer that is shocking.
many years ago I sold a Mazda 626 to a side of the road trader. At the time It had over 140k on it. a few weeks later a friend told me a friend of his had bought it with only half the genuine miles.
makes me wonder how many cars out there actually have genuine miles on them.

why a haircut for the sake of 5,000 miles?
Not worth the risk really, 50,000 miles and I could see the logic
Have you actually read the first post? Not worth the risk really, 50,000 miles and I could see the logic

Sounds like a mix-up to me OP, easy to mistake a 4 for a 9, or visa versa.
Thanks for giving your speculative opinion on what "might" have happened - I, on the other hand, dealt with the details as they were provided.
Whats your point?
I've spoken to my pals friend, he's not mistaken as apparently the salesman described the car over the phone before he went to view, registration confirms it's my old car, shaved of 5000 miles, according to Trading Standards it will be my word against theirs, since the clockers are so sophisticated now that the ECU will have been adjusted and there will be no trace at all.

Clocking cars in just as common as it always has been, maybe more so. I know someone who can do it and they make big money from it. The cars i have seen them doing it to range from crapy old mondeos to lambo's!
?I've read that it's easier & quicker to clock a car these days than 20 years ago?
