Should I have stopped ?
Discussion
Driving home tonight down Lane End Road towards Wycombe Wanderers footie ground, car coming towards me about 20 metres away, hit a young deer that bolted out into the road.
Car hit the deer on his front right hand side and bowled the deer towards me. A stamp on the middle peddle and a quick right/left shimmy and I just missed the deer, I was so close a small piece of the car's headlight glass landed on my windscreen.
Anyway, the road has no where immediately to stop (no footpaths etc and i'm on a bend) so I keep rolling forward (I never came to a standstill). I look in the mirror and the car that hit the deer continues round the corner. I'm thinking, ok, no other party involved, I don't need to stop and give him my details (it was so quick (and dark) I don't know what make the car was or who was driving. so I continue on. Later I think I should have stopped to check that the driver was ok and feel a bit of a gimp for not stopping.
Can anyone confirm that legally I should / should not have to stop if I witness an accident between car and wildlife ? and would it make any difference to the poor guy/girl's insurance claim if there was a witness ?

Only animals that you have to report hitting are.
Cow
Horse
Ass
Mule
Pig
Sheep
Dog
Goat.
(I think going back years and years from training)
I think you have answered your own question really.
But, if you didnt hit another vehicle causing damage then legally you don't have to stop.
If you would have put yourself and other motorists in danger by stopping then you did the right thing, that's what it sounds like anyway.
Hopefully the deer doesn't have too much of a headache and the other chap hasn't reported an rta by hitting your vehicle.
If you are in any doubt, pop into the local nick. This has to be done within 24 hrs or as early as practicable. This means you can report iy ig you are in any doubt.
Hope that helps a bit.
