The standard OEM oil filter fitted to the C20XE engine in various Vauxhall/Opel models (pt #93156954N)
has a metric M18-1.5 thread, is about 85mm in height and DOESN'T contain a relief valve.

The Caterham spec' filter (UFI 23.118.00) is a stubby filter only 61mm in height, has been converted to a 3/4-16 UNF thread and contains a relief valve. The shorter filter is of course to provide greater ground clearance particularly when the shallow dry-sump is fitted.
With the Caterham wet sump installed the taller 85mm filter works just fine; sump is still the lowest part of the engine.
Since I've owned the car I've been using a longer 85mm filter with the 3/4-16 UNF thread and a relief valve. I've done some searching and it seem all filters with a 3/4-16 UNF thread that will fit the C20XE engine have a relief valve. It is only the metric filters that don't.

My question is this. I don't see any advantage in running a relief valved filter in the larger filter size and I'm thinking of changing the oil pump spin-on filter nipple to the metric size so that can use the Vauxhall OEM (or equivalent) filter.
Is there anything anyone can think of I'm over looking in doing this?
