'Show members online'

Now i may have been here a while, but what the hell does the 'make me invisible to other members' button do in preferences? I did'nt know there was a way of knowing whether other members were online?

Or am i being mr thicky?

Its if someone adds you to there mates list ( god only knows why ) which is in the drop down menu.
That opens in a pop up window and you can see if any are online, If a person has chosen not to be shown online you get a smilie with a finger up his nose
