Went to my local club meet last sunday (in my Chimaera) expecting to buy (at most) a coffee, and now I have a pre cat Griff in the garage....how did that happen?

Still in shock! One has to go...

What have I done?

Well if you already had a Chimp and you bought a Griff, you know which one has to go laugh

Welcome. Glad to see you purchased a Pre-Cat, is it a 4.0L or 4.3L? Also post some pics for us anoraks.

Smatypants is right ! do you have 2 watches, 2 pairs of black shoes, 2 coats ?
Maybe make one your regular drive and lavish money on the other to make it pristine !

Nice idea, and it has crossed my mind, but not financially possible! I's a pity as both are great cars...Chimaera just flew through it's MOT and had a service..running really well, power steering, T5 gearbox, bigger boot, 7 years younger than the Griff...loads going for it.

But the noise of the Pre Cat...........

Wouldn't want to tempt you with financial ruin, however you know you can't get rid of either.....

I have two Griffs on the basis that I can drive one, whilst doing a 'nut and bolt' rebuild on the other. Having one to drive means I am not tempted to cut corners on the rebuild to get the other back on the road (also the second Griff was going 'cheap').

What happens when I have rebuilt both....? Look they are not going down in value are they...?

Recent article in Sunday Times, 27 October says that in the period 2003 to 2013,

Houses rose by 27%
FTSE 100 55%
Wine 182%
Art 183%
Gold 273%
Classic cars 430%

So all you need to do is tell Mrs V8Firm, the Bank, your creditors that you are making a great investment and you will be fine.......

And all this has got nothing to do with the fact that you love owning and driving great cars

Thanks Pete Mac...man maths at it's very best!

I'll give it a go but don't hold out much hope...her MX5 is now sat out in the cold so physical space is still an issue. Have considered storage off site ....i'ts now up for sale so will see what happens

Indeed it is Rogers car....owned by him for 9 years. Took it for it's first drive on Sunday and it is indeed a raw beast. Sounds and feels as if it is trying to kill you; and that's just reversing it out of the drive!

It just isn't the same. There is a certain sound to a pre-cat Griff that cannot be replicated. I have decatted and de-precatted by Griff 500 and it still does not sound as good as a Pre-cat Griff.

Congratulations on your purhcase, looks like a stunning example.

Maybe keep both and turn the Chim into a more track focused car and keep the Griff original?

What do you think the difference is caused by..?

Longer exhaust manifold headers - or might it be down to the 1.0l difference in displacement..?
