New A15 Speed Cameras
Discussion
A busy stretch of road in North Lincolnshire is to see additional speed monitoring of vehicles after shock figures revealed that scores of drivers are reaching speed of up to 90mph every day.
These extra speed enforcement cameras are to be employed on the A15 Humber Bridge approach road after shock figures revealed scores of drivers are topping 90mph.
The A15 has become a core speed enforcement site for Safer Roads Humber.
This followed speed monitoring by North Lincolnshire Council, which showed a high number of offenders.
The road has an average of 16,000 vehicles using it each day.
Over 745 users travel between 80 and 90mph per day, and more than 100 a day travel at more than 90mph.
In the last three years, there have been 27 crashes where people have been injured.
Speed enforcement camera signs have already been built and enforcement will begin later this month. Speed enforcement camera vans will operate in certain areas until hard standing areas are built.
Inn the meantime, enforcement will be carried out by motorbikes on locations such as bridge tops.
Cabinet Member for Highways and Neighbourhoods, Councillor Nigel Sherwood (Brigg and Wolds) said:
“After extensive monitoring by Safer Roads Humber, the decision has been taken to install speed enforcement cameras on the A15 Humber Bridge approach road.
“This has been done to keep drivers safe on North Lincolnshire’s roads and reduce the number of accidents.”
“It is essential that people drive safely and stick to the speed limit.
“There have been far too many accidents on the A15, and the majority of these could have been prevented if drivers kept within the speed limit.”
