Have i bought the wrong sd card?

Just bought a Nikon d3200 and bought the sd car in the link below,is it the correct one?The camera seems extremely laggy,little sand timer symbol appears a lot between toggling between doing this an that,in fact when i first fired up the camra with the card in the sand timer symbol appeared for ages and i had to switch the camera off!Here's the sd card.

The card, as long as it's genuine(and I don't see any reason it isn't), should be plenty good enough. I have the same one in my 60D with no problems.

Have you tried formatting it 'in Camera'? what sort of write speeds do you get if you plug it into your PC?

Don't know if i'm being a bit slow on teh uptake here but is this you telling me for a fact it's a fake?Because believe it or not every single thing they say to look for i can't even see anywhere in the first place!!They show two pics of a part of the packaging to compare,mine is like neither,parts of the sd car to look out for,again,two pics mine is like neither??Performance of this card is absolutely shocking,i can't even flick through the couple of pics i've taken so far on the in camera viewer?

I would assume it is faulty or fake based on that. Either way, I'd be inclined to send it back for a refund.

I didn't investigate the info fully; it may not even pertain to your exact card, but the point is that about 75% of all Sandisks sold on eBay are fake. Have a google and see if you can find more specific information about your exact card.

I use Lexar Pro and nobody seems to bother faking that

Plug it into your PC and run H2TestW - it'll check it really is 16GB and what speed it is (Class 10 should be 10 MB/s at least).

It has all the hallmarks of being a crappy fake anyway.

This is only the second sd card i've ever bought in my life!The first one i bought had the tough plastic vacuum packed material over the sd card and the cardboard,plus the sd card itself was in a small opaque plastic container.It just looked a lot fancier packaging than this is.

Ultras come in the packaging you got, the Extreme and Extreme Pros come in fancier boxes. It's a minefield on ebay which is why I totally avoid. I've run crappy cards in DSLRs before and never had issues flicking through pictures like you are having.

In any case, send it back if it's not a fake it's faulty.

If it's fake, then you should follow the guidelines in the link earlier about reporting it to ebay etc

Whilst on the topic of dodgy SD cards .....


There's an outfit in Jersey that looks like it is in a setting up phase - half completed web site if you dig past the Sales screens and order processing pages. They are majoring in memory cards this time it seems. They seem to have been in other games before this one.

The front page has a banner with the name Magento. I think this is just the name of the Open Source eCommerce system the site uses.

The URL that get you there is that of an outfit that seems to have 'disappeared' in the last month and looks like it was little more than a front to take money without delivering any goods. As was one of its forerunners and, I suspect, another seemingly completely different sort of business that happens to share the same Telephone number.

No wonder so many of the inhabitants of Jersey seem rather affluent.

Anyway if you are tempted by some fairly attractive prices on the web site should it ever appear on the listings (not so far it seems but you can buy your way there of course and they may be operating on eBay) be wary.

If you are fussy about performance and reliability, always buy memory from a reputable source. It's only a few £ extra. Or avoid Sandisk, because they attract the fakers.
